US News- 2004 Best Graduate Schools

Published

For those "shopping" around for Anesthesia Schools, I understand US News and World Report is about to release their long awaited rankings--among many categories, it will include the nation's best Nursing Anesthesia schools. Should be out in magazines next week.

For G8rlimey--you're gonna like who ranked Numero Uno!!

It probably goes without saying that every survey's has some degree of flaw/error. But the bottomline is that News and World report rankings of schools and colleges carries weight among educators and students alike. If your school (or potential school) didn't make it then it doesn't mean it's not a good program, it just means you can't put any reference to your program being ranked among the best in the nation---whether that's bad or good depends on you. I know how I feel about where my school ranked!! :)

To dreamer 616- the University of Michigan-Flint program director's email address is [email protected]. Contact her -I'm sure she will be more that happy to respond to your questions. They also have a prospective student guide that can be downloaded from the UMFlint website under graduate programs.

To add to N2bate's comment, it doesn't matter where your school ended up, pretty much all schools offer an education that will help you to become a competent professional. Had more schools responded, I am sure the rankings would be different, but my school has ranked in the top 5 for the past 2 cycles of USNWR and that makes me very happy. Happy in the fact that I did not have to pick a prestigious school to be recognized I will recieve a quality education.

Specializes in ICU.

I am not knocking any of the schools on the list, to say the least. I respect each and every one of them in graduating SRNAs who are well versed in their field of expertise. Living in Virginia, I have known the reputation of VCU's program for a number of years. It is well known throughout the commonwealth. I was just pointing out the methodology used by US News & World Report in compiling the list.

It's interesting that the Medical school rankings also only had 53% response rate from deans and faculty (Law programs had a response rate of 70%).

Correct me if I am wrong but less than 51% of the population voted in the last election.

Maybe 50% isn't that bad after all.

I bet you a bunch of people who didn't vote in the last election wish they had. They are probably looking for a job right now.

If one critiques a nursing article in a journal, one of the things a student must do is look at the reliability and validity of the study. This comes after the literature review, theoretical framework, and data collection metods analysis. That is all I am doing--suggesting the limitations of a particular aspect of this study's design and procedure.
