US medical insurance

Published

Hi!

Can anyone help me wade through this medical insurance quote?

The cover will cost us (a family of 4) $652 a month. There is no deductible, no coinsurance, but $20 copay for Drs office visit, $750 copay for hospital admission, Max out of pocket $3000 individual or $6000 family. Lifetime max cover $1million. Is there anyone out there who can tell me if this is a good deal or not?

I might be able to help if you give me more info such as the health insurance company and where you will be living in the US.

Are you coming to work over here? Most hospitals should pay for their employee's health insurance. It's one of our major benefits.

I'm a BSN student in California; let me know if you need help with the insurance stuff; I can do a quick search for you to see if it's a good deal. Our health care and insurance here in the US is VERY expensive!

Mine for something similar is $128 a month for my family of four in my job...i applied for one job a month ago and it was going to cost me $700 for the same coverage so i gave that job a miss also because the rate of pay was low too....so be careful

That is really good because OGP charge $250 for one dependant and $550 for two or more

Oh my god, are you ok? You can take up cobra just for yourself at $257 if your insurance dont cover you. You pay out now and get it back later. Will you be able to work?

We have insurance through my husband who is self-employed--so we pay the full premium without help from an employer. For the original poster--is that a premium for you without employer contribution? How many people is it covering? What kind of coverage are you comfortable with?

We have a family of 5 (three kids). I am only comfortable with PPO (able to choose a doctor myself both for basic and specialty care). For the kind of coverage you are describing, we had been paying over $1,100 a month. We recently switched to a high deductible plan and our premium went down to about half that. We are in California.

There are cheaper plans out there with HMOs--like Kaiser. But, you give up a lot of choice and control to save that money. It all depends on your situation and comfort level.

Almost all employers here offer some sort of medical plan for their nurses. Depending on the job, it could be a very small or no contribution on your part. It is part of your compensation for the job and should be taken into account when you are looking for a position. I am working per diem which gives me no benefit option, but gives me a lot of freedom with my schedule and I make more per hour. It works for us right now. Good Luck!
