Yes about BOLC schedule, 32SoulPatrolRN posted this on Sept:

"It kind of varies week to week for BOLC, the first week you have a lot of in processing briefs that are at 0900 and then within the first two weeks you have height/weight they for us was a 0330 start time and then a record ACFT at 0400

one you start combatives it's a 0600-0700ish start to the morning then usually in class by like 0900 until 1700 depending on your instructor

last three weeks of BOLC you'll be in the field at camp Bullis M-F and the home on Saturday/Sunday - so it varies

you do get a break, so for us in direct accessions we finished  BOLC 14 May this year and we had time off until 31 May - on 31 May the whole class had to be present for accountability, direct accession and LTHET and then first official day of class was 3 June ."

----Hope it helps! Not sure though about the schedule during Phase 1. I'd like to find out more about it as well.

Thanks! Do you know when benefits start? Specifically health insurance.

Benefits basically start after you get your CAC, so for us was the Friday before we traveled to DCC, we signed up the same day we got our CACs so that was two weeks after our report date to Fort Sam

I'll be honest, the schedule for your spouse working as a nurse could be tricky

my wife who is also an RN and another Direct Acession guy who's wife is a nurse both opted to not work at least for this first year in phase 1

you will most likely move for phase 2 and in phase one at least for first semester from June to September it's usually class from 0800-1230 you will be studying a lot, there are many weeks where it is two exams a week or even three exams in 7 days

its very easy to fall behind, while personally I took a huge pay cut from my California nursing job as well as my wife's California nursing job, we've maximized our family time with my study time because she's not working right now and things important to us like health insurance for our 4 kids and ourselves is all covered; so with a little budgeting we're able to survive on a 75 percent decrease in income

Also you are in class 5 days of the week and it is mandatory; also stuff shows up on the tests what won't be in their PowerPoints/online material but from what they said in class

-Same with BOLC, 5 days a week-mandatory; before school starts DCC/BOLC will be your job

I will help taking a payout when I start USAGPAN as well.  Currently 1LT with 7 months TIG.  BOLC complete.  Will I be able to get my CPT during USAGPAN?  The pay bump would help a lot.

Yeah you should be able to promote, it's 24 months TIG for 1LT to CPT, and the boards for those for the last two years have been end of March- first week April; just depends when you hit the 24 months. With about 2 years of constructive credit my date of rank for 1LT was backdated to July 2023 so I'll get the 24 months next year July 2025 and hopefully the board stays fully qualified as it has been for the last couple of years for 2026 and should get picked up for CPT for the 2026 board and pin some time late 2026 or early 2027 but it'll be during my third year in USAGPAN whether early in the last year or in the middle

-that being said, it's been nice getting paid while going to school and not worrying about things like health insurance, and you should get a little increase after 2 years time in service; I did sell my house before moving so we used that for the first 2-3 months while everything was processing

Anyone on FY24 know when Phase 1 ends? Is it 4th week of May for you guys? I'm trying to figure our length of lease for housing. Thanks!

Specializes in CVICU, CCU, Paramedic.

Our last day is June 6th.

But sign whatever lease gives you the cheapest price. The law protects you from fees from breaking a lease. With orders you only have to give them 30 days notice and you're in the clear.

Thank you! Do you have dates for your Phase 2? I was wondering if you all get a break between Phase 1 and 2 (specially for those moving out of SATX to other clinical sites)?

You will be allotted a certain amount of travel days based on mileage, likely will get some time to take leave and typically you get 10 days of authorized non chargeable house hunting. There is usually a specific report date so you can all inprocess together.

Thanks for the info!

Another question if any of you can give me insight with regards to lodging. I read something about TLE (Temporary Lodging Expense). Am I entitled for TLE if it is my first PCS with family? I looked up lodging (IHG hotels on post) for JBSA for January for a family of 4 and there are no availability. Can I book a hotel off post then and get reimbursed (TLE)? Or use BAH. Just a little confused.

You will get reimbursed a flat rate for hotel stay even if it's a hotel that isn't on Fort Sam

save your hotel receipts just in case -they didn't ask me for mine but I just kept it in case

you'll need to use your own money for a lot of this at first and get reimbursed in like March/April

Your first day of inprocessing finance will work with getting your travel reimbursed so just save all your hotels/gas receipts/ weight tickets if you're gonna claim weight with your cars
