I'm a newbie here, I just registered today (thank you very much) and I'm currently a 4th year BS Nursing College student. My [evil]clinical instructor[/evil] gave me this assignment, which has really strained my brains beyond its capacity... The homework goes like this: Classify the heart disorders as to Left-Sided or Right Sided Heart Failure.
Please help me... anyone out there... The homework is due on Monday and it is already Sunday here in my place.
I promise I'll be eternally grateful to anyone who can save me from a grade of 5.00.

I moved your post to the General Nursing Student Discussion Forum; there are a few posts on Care Plans here that will help.

Hi. Always remember that usually with heart failures, whichever the area is,be it right or left there is backflowing of blood. So when we're dealing with left sided heart failure there will be backflowing of blood to the lungs. In this case, left sided heart failure will present with pulmonary edema wherein there is congestion of the lungs therefore, there will be dyspnea,cough,etc...Whereas in right sided heart failure, it will present with ascites(where there is hepatomegaly), bipedal edema,etc... Try to look at your medsurg books. You'll find the thorough explanation there. When dealing with pathology always remember your physiology..
Thanks. :loveya: I'm sure I'm going to find this material useful. :typing

I always think left = lungs.
