Updated advice about Tampa?

Specializes in Medical-Surgical Acute.

I've done research on this site but most of the replies are at least 3 years old and I'm hoping for some updated stats, I really hope someone can help me.

We are going to relocate our family to Florida and Tampa has made the short list. Can anyone give me an idea of what an RN with 1 year acute experience would start at in a hospital setting? I'm crossing my fingers for TGH but have applied at others.

I currently live in MI and make 23.75/hr plus 1.55 night shift differential. We are also union and have insurance through the hospital. I'm aware some nurses purchase their own insurance, but I'd really prefer to have it offered by the facility as I'm looking for a full time position.

Since the cost of living is quite a bit more there than here, I was really hoping the pay wouldn't be any less than it is here... I've heard FL pays nurses diddly but maybe that's changing?

Please help with your thoughts and experience! Thank you in advance!

Hi Tayrah99,

It depends on which hospital system you choose to work with. There is HCA, Baycare, Florida Hospital, and TGH to name a few. You should have no problem getting paid at least that with 1 year acute experience. You should have no difficulties in procuring benefits with full time status as well. I have heard great things about Baycare. God bless!
