Unsure if ready...Advice?

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm taking the NCLEX this coming Thursday and so far all I've been getting are really bad panic attacks (In fact, last night, I had a terrible breakdown D: ). I've been using Kaplan to study and a little bit of Saunders to look over stuff I couldn't find on the free Kaplan E-book. So far these are my grades:

Q1: 48%

Q2: 46.7%

Q3: 51%

Q4: 46%

Q5: 55%

Q6: 61%

Q7: 61%

Qbank: 53% (only 90 Questions left)

Readiness: 48% (but I took it wayyyy before any of the Qtrainers and Qbanks)

Funny thing is for the last Qtrainers, I guessed alot and I really didn't anticipate those grades lol. I know they aren't the best and I'm not sure what I should do now that I only have 3 days left...I've heard from a bunch of friends and posts on the forum that they got alot of SATAs during the tests and those are actually a huge weakness of mines. I'm not sure how I could prepare for them-or should I even prepare for them now at this rate?

So, basically what wanted to ask is are my Qtrainer grades good enough? Should I keep studying, especially on SATAs? What did you guys do during these last few days before the test?

I don't have much experience with Kaplan, but the day before my exam, I stopped studying at 5 or 6ish and just relaxed and watched movies on Netflix. Later that night, I did some light exercise on the treadmill to alleviate my anxiety/headache, took a shower, then went to bed as early as I could.

Eat a good breakfast in the morning (pancake, eggs, and bacon). Bring a snack(s) and water with you to the testing center, so when you get hungry you can eat it on break, so you won't feel fatigued.

I got 64% on QT6 and 61% on QT7 and I passed in 75. I was still watching the Kaplan the videos two days before my exam. On the day before my exam, I just relaxed. I spent about 2 hours studying in the morning and then I did fun things all afternoon. One thing that really helped me was to go to the test site a week before and check it out. The day of my exam I felt less anxious about driving there and where the room was and all. I think Kaplan puts too much pressure on getting their benchmark at 65% overall and 60% in each of the eight client need categories. I can't tell you if your scores are good enough to take and pass the NCLEX. My only advice is to put in the all time you can and do all you can do and follow the Kaplan plan. Good luck!

Qt6 and 7 scores are great as kaplan recommends a 60% on both of those. Your other scores are not as high as they recommend though (qbank I think they recommend a 60 as well). That being said, I had friends who had similar scores and passed in 75 questions. I think it really comes down to how you feel. The nclex is a mental test and you have to believe in yourself as much as possible.

First of all, my biggest advice with SATA is to not stress them. I know easier said than done and *I* stressed about them. I did the SATA practice test with Kaplan and I think I got a 31% or something. I freaked!! I also had over 20 SATA on the NCLEX. After taking the NCLEX I realized that just doing the Kaplan questions over and over helped me with content and that's all SATA Qs are - 'how well do you know your content' questions. So, practice SATA a little, but I would focus on other style questions.

My scores were in the high 50s to low 60s. Like you I was extremely stressed. I really was. I just could not handle the stress anymore. At the peak of my stress, I still had 2 weeks until my test date. I told my husband I honestly couldn't last two weeks like that and I didn't know what to do. I decided to take the readiness test that afternoon (I was holding off to take it until just before the exam). I took it and got a 62%. I immediately went to Pearson Vue website and rescheduled my exam...for the NEXT day!! LOL!

I did not feel ready, but I explained to my husband that I just couldn't last 2 weeks with this stress level. I honestly thought that this was going to be a "Practice Round" for the NCLEX, but I felt I needed it so that I would know better what to expect and how to study next time around. I really thought I was going to fail, but I had prepared myself for that and thought if I DID pass, it would just be a wonderful surprise. :) (I passed ;) )

I say all that to say this. I know what you're talking about w/ the anxiety. Some of the scores are a bit low for Kaplan standards but your Q6 and Q7 are good and where they should be. It's hard to say if they average out to passing scores for taking the NCLEX but it's a decision only you can make. I had to take it even though I didn't feel prepared enough just to get the "mystery" out of this test out of the way. :)
