ExcitedPre-RN
1 Post
Hello everyone! I am a pre-nursing student--to make a long story short, I originally went to a university with a BSN program, the nursing program just recently underwent probation due to high % of students failing the NCLEX. I have decided to apply to an associates RN program then attend a RN-BSN program in my area (due to expenses) and due to a lack of stability from the BSN program. I am a nervous nelly and an overachiever, and nursing school grades/scores terrify me. I am still not sure if my grades or portfolio match up.
My schools do not offer an average GPA or average score on the Kaplan test/ATI-TEAS tests. My schools requires A&P I, A&P II, Developmental Psychology, Student Development in Healthcare, Humanities, and English Comp. My community college GPA is a 4.0 (A&P I, Orientation, English Comp), then a "B" and "B+" for my humanities and development psychology (from my 4-year school). I am taking A&P II over the summer, and cannot wait, as I LOVED A&P I, and did very well!
I also am pursuing my CNA, as well as phlebotomy just to make time go by! I have worked in a CNA position, minus certification, due to the retirement home's extensive training--and have experience with elderly with dementia and Alzheimers.
As of now, does anyone think I have a fighting chance with admittance? Obviously this will be a guess, as I have not completed my testing, but I am more concerned about GPA! I enjoy standardized testing and have been studying some time for completion of the TEAS/Kaplan in August/Sept.
My question remains--should I consider taking a humanities course at this community college, and then re-take developmental psychology due to the fact I only have a "B" and "B+" grade? I'm just terrified my grades simply will not match up, even into an RN program. Thank you to all responses!

Hi there. You should really check with the actual program to see how they calculate eligibility. A B in developmental psychology wouldn't have mattered at all in my program. They only cared about GPA of the sciences. Some programs simply have wait lists or lottery systems where C students have the same chance as A students.

If those classes are pre requisites for the program I would retake them.
