I work on the same unit every day and they was short staffed so they was going to pull me to another floor that I have never been on and I stated that I was going to need someone to give me some info about the residents.I told them I would not put residents or my future in danger by trying to care for residents I do not know anything about.I am sure the care books are available but honestly taking time to read all that info is not possible before you need to start providing care. Thanks for all the halpful advice available on this great site.:)

No, you are not being unreasonable. If you are meanng that you work currently in a nursing home....you need the help. If theyt cannot provide you with it and expect you to work your butt off by yourself.......go your own way (fleetwood mac).

I often shifted to other floors at the nursing home and was happy to help out. Other CNAs flatly refused. I worked on the TCU so I might have a brand new admit I knew nothing about every day I worked. After working in a nursing home a few months, I knew enough to keep any resident I may have been assigned to out of danger.
To each his or her own.

I've had that happen before, and I just had another CNA give me a rundown on all my residents while I took notes on a paper towel, lol.
thanks for the input!! now Ihave an idea how to handle the situation when it happens again
