Comment below your points if you are applying to the Summer 2018 nursing cohort at UNLV

For level 1 they usually register the classes for you.

What level are you?

I hope they let us know early so I can plan according especially because I want to sign the pper work so I can receive the rest of my financial aid for summer.

I'm in 3. Sorry I made a typo.

But if I remember correctly, at my contract signing they told us they would register classes for us. I forgot how fast after that our classes were registered. But I would ask them at the time of contract signing because it could've changed.

Do you have any tips for us for our first semester. Also did everyone pass and move onto level 2?? One of my biggest question is also how do you guys manage to pay for tuition, bout how much do you guys pay out of pocket if u dont mind me asking??

Not all of us passed onto level 2 and we've been told that its been a long long time since all 48 students passed level 1. But this can be due to medical, personal, or family problems/emergencies, not always because of grades or absences.

Level 1 can be busy and it may feel very overwhelming at times because you're learning all these new things. It is nothing like pre-reqs. You will eventually get used to the way nursing exams/tests are (application/critical thinking). The nursing instructors are great and the program itself is very organized. You will learn how to assess a patient and the fundamentals of nursing (plus other classes of course) in level 1. Sometimes things may seem confusing, but as you move through the program, your knowledge will build and expand. I was told that fundamentals are the "bread and butter" throughout our nursing careers! As you go through clinical, make sure to get all the experience you can get :) Managing your time is very important.

As for tuition, I pay about 4k out of pocket, that includes books. Some of my classmates are paying a bit less or more, just depends on financial aid and scholarships. I think that is why most people apply for Fall because of financial aid. Have you thought of student loans?

Thank you so much for the insight. Now im reallu nervous about starting, hopefully i can pass to level 2 instead of repeating. What percentage do we meed to pass a course? Also do u carry many books at once because idk if i should get a regular bacl or one with wheels.

You are right i guess it does depend on financial aid, yes i have looked into loans but i really dont want to take any of them..i was just thinking about paying with a credit card instead

You need a weighted average of 75% on exams and tests. And no rounding. You'll get a BSN handbook at contract signing or orientation day I think. They also have it online that explains it all.

For books, I buy the hard copies & they also come with an online version as well. I personally never brought any of my books with me (sometimes I would probably bring one) because I would type notes during class or use the highlighter option in the e-book to follow along. Then I'd go home and study from the hard copies. But it is definitely preference :)

Sorry im asking so many questions lol but i really appreciate it. Do u have any preference for shoes during clinicals? I know the program is hard but it is Possible to pass every level on your 1st try right?

If I remember correctly, they said all white, leather shoes and it can't have holes and stuff in it. I personally like sketchers because it's comfortable. Lol. And yes, it is very possible. If you don't pass one class, you cannot proceed onto the next level with your cohort. And if I am correct, if a person fails twice, they're dismissed from the program. Not trying to scare you! Lol. But you can read about everything in the handbook just to double check

Thank you so much for answering my questions!!

Thank you very much for explaining everything @ FutureRNurse1996. And thank you for asking @candy2226, those were mostly all the questions that were running through my head. Wow It sounds like it is going to be tough program though. Hopefully we will all pass.
