UNLV SON FALL 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! :)

Since the Summer 2018 cohort is about to be announced, I thought I would start the forum for Fall 2018. Who else is applying? I hope the cut off score isn't as high as it was last fall!

Someone that went to the signing session today (06/21/2018) told me that there were only 7 people! So we're up to 53 applicants!

Not too shabby! At this rate we will be at around 65-70 in total!

Does anyone have an idea on how many applicants there usually are? Especially the amount that applied for Fall 2017?

Yes, actually! LOL. 98 people applied last Fall and the Fall before that, 101 applied. The SON said that Fall usually has the most applicants.

Wait, really?! So if my spidy-senses and advanced mathematics skills are correct...

With the 53 current applicants and 3 more signing sessions left (tomorrow and next Thurs & Fri), there can be a max of 89 applicants this year.

While the addition of the extra 0.5 for Rebel Recognition (or whatever it's called) was thought to have the potential to increase the cutoff score, it seems that less applicants + the increase in admitted students may very well outweighs this.

Of course, this is assuming that the current count of 53 is correct and that they won't have more than 12 students in each session (which I think is fairly safe to assume is pretty close to accurate).

Things are looking positive in regards to having a cutoff less than Fall 2017.

Thoughts?

Why am I slightly more neurotic than your normal Allnurses-perusing UNLV SON applicant, you may ask? Well, this is because I'm applying with exactly 94.38 points, the Fall 2017 cut off.

For whatever reason, my points being the exact cutoff as Fall 2017 is making more nervous than if my points were less! I appreciate this safe and nonjudgmental space to vent and over analyze. :woot:

I️ totally get you, Living2Learn! It is all so nerve racking! I️ overanalyze too lol. But, I️ am still unsure of what to think about the cut off. It just gives me anxiety, so I️ am trying to stop haha. I️ had my signing session today and there were 6 people. We all talked to each other, so that was nice!

Congrats on getting the signing session out of the way! Only 2 weeks or so left to wait, so take some comfort in that - I know I am!

Also, only 6 people? That puts us at 59 - great news!

Hi guys, I'm thinking of applying this Fall with 92.2 but it's because I have 2 classes in progress right now. Do you think I have a good chance of getting accepted? This is my first time applying. Also, I know last Fall cut off was crazy high, anyone knows the cut off for Fall 2016? I'm just thinking of trying my luck due to the increased number of accepted applicants this year haha. If I get rejected I can just try again in the Spring I guess.

I believe Fall 2016's cutoff was 92.74. I wouldn't be very confident with a 92.2, just because the cut-off hasn't been that low in the past couple years, any semester. :(

If you think you'll get As in the 2 classes you're taking right now, then you have a good chance of getting in for Spring 2019! So you could use up an attempt now if you are sure you'll get in for Spring - plus, the increase to 56 admitted (and seemingly lower amount of applicants for this cohort) could lower the cut-off as well.

Ultimately, if I were you, I'd wait for the Spring -but apply if you think it's best!! (p.s. accurate username)

It's a pretty simple answer in my eyes.

Apply Fall 2018 if:

-The 2 classes you're taking now are BOTH classes that count for attempt points (BIOL 223/224/251, NURS 299, MATH 120/124). This means you're at 92.2 with only 9 attempt points. Your score will increase by around 5-6 points after you're done. You're a shoo-in for Spring 2019 with 97+ points

-(Considering above) You aren't struggling with your current classes. You are sure beyond a shadow of a doubt you're going to pull a minimum of B+ in both of these classes.

Don't Apply Fall 2018 if:

-If either of the two classes you're taking doesn't count for attempt points (Stats, Chem, etc.) Your score will not increase as much if you already have 12 or 15 attempt points

-You've retaken any of the classes with attempt points because you did not get a >B the first time.

-You have more than one B in the classes that count for GPA points

The only reason you should apply now is if you're 100% sure you'll get in the Spring if you don't get in Fall. Where do you fall with these things taken into consideration?

Hey Forevertired! :)

I know that you want to be in nursing school already, but I honestly don't think it's a good idea. If I was in your shoes, I would wait until I finished those 2 classes that are in progress -- especially if they are the classes that matter. You will have such a better score if you waited and applied for the spring. The spring cut off is usually lower as well, so you would have a great chance. I think the addition of 8 spots to the program helps, but it might not extend to the 92s. I would hate for you to apply and get rejected. Then when it's time for you to apply for the Spring, if you happen to get B's in those classes, your anxiety will be at a all time high, since you only have ONE shot left. But, those are my thoughts. It is all up to you! My final words of advice are to be patient. Good things take time.

Also, if you do decide to apply for the Fall, you should act fast! There are only two more signing sessions left.
