Hi everyone,
I saw in years past that there were threads for people who applied to specific programs so I figured I'd carry on the tradition. Is anyone else applying for the Direct entry CNL program at UVA? The application deadline is October 1st. I'm looking to submit mine by the end of this week.
Talk soon!
Hey guys,
I finally found this forum and glad to meet you all. I'm Jordan and I've also been invited to the interviews for CNL.
I was wondering if anyone could help me with figuring out what date the welcome meeting is happening on. I know that the interviews are split between the 2nd and 3rd, but they don't give the dates for all the group zoom meetings are on. Look forward to seeing you all!

Hi Jordan,
Congratulations! My interview is on the 3rd, I want to say the welcome meeting might be on both days so they can capture all the students

I like the program quite a lot so far. Our year has been pretty funky because of COVID, but I'll try to give you the best picture I can.
Pros: Amazing faculty, excellent opportunities present for you ALL THE TIME, lots of clinical time, academic advisor Dillon, lots of resources.
Cons: There's a lot of BS stuff you have to deal with; ie communication isn't always very clear on expectations, you have to advocate for yourself about how the program is. The program is $$$ (apply for the Conway!). Mostly fiddly stuff that comes with going to a big academic nursing school.
The first Summer is unique because you have class 4 days/week. You will have pathophysiology and two other classes that are TBD depending on what COVID looks like. Patho is scary and stressful (and interesting) and serves as a crash course into what the rest of the program looks like. They will talk to you guys a lot about that class so I won't get into it here but don't sweat about it!
Now we have class 8am-roughly 3/4pm Thursday and Friday, with the rest of the week open to clinical shifts. You'll do 12s or 8s depending on where you are rotating, and they can be any other day and can also be night shifts. I love the way the schedule is set up; it is mostly dependent on how you can manage your time. Some weeks (like now, at exam time LOL) those 5 days a week are spent glued to school, some weeks are very chill and you can enjoy life a bit more. A few people in our program have been working part time throughout and they make it work but it seems like it sucks.
But the biggest pro in my opinion is something you have to do yourself: if you have any interest or area you want to go into, there are a dozen faculty members who will connect you with others/people at the head of the field/research opportunities. There are so many ways to really set yourself up for a cool career. I've found that taking advantage of those things makes the $ worth it.
LOL I wrote so much, this is true avoidance behavior for my pharm exam.
