University of Virginia - Direct Entry CNL 2021

Published

Hi everyone,

I saw in years past that there were threads for people who applied to specific programs so I figured I'd carry on the tradition. Is anyone else applying for the Direct entry CNL program at UVA? The application deadline is October 1st. I'm looking to submit mine by the end of this week.

Talk soon!

I've applied to UVA and will be applying to Vanderbilt and the University of Toledo.

Curious - what is everyone's background?

Hi everyone! So happy y’all found this page, I thought I’d be the only one LOL I applied and am super excited to hear back about everything! I wish everyone the best of luck!!

Hi everyone,

Has anyone heard back about anything?

I check the status of my application daily. Super anxious!

Has anyone heard back yet? I am so anxious.. LOL

Not yet... hopefully soon! Looking at past years threads, they start contacting for interviews around this time.

Hi! Does anyone know how many people typically apply and how many of those are offered admittance into the program? Thanks!

Hi guys! I am in the 2022 cohort and figured I'd offer to respond to any questions you guys have. I remember how I felt this time last year and it really helped to hear from people who had been through it!

I got my interview invite on Nov 15, but that wasn't the same for everyone in my class, but you should be hearing soon regardless!

They told us they get 400+ applicants (which seems too high tbh, I'd guess more like 200). Our cohort is 45, but they admitted close to ~55 I believe. People's plans changed, went to different schools, etc.

Please let me know if you guys have other questions! I'm sure you are all excellent candidates!

Hi ak2022,

Thanks for all of this!

Do you know if everyone who was accepted went through an interview? Do you remember what kinds of questions were asked?

Looking to hear back soon!

Everyone who was accepted got an interview, save a FEW who were student athletes or last minute adds/waitlisters. They don't advertise it like this, but the interview is a very very strong indicator you will be accepted (I'm pretty sure everyone I met while waiting for my interview is now my classmate).

The interview questions are the typical general type of questions: why nursing, why a CNL (I did a lot of research on the CNL stuff and I don't recommend it), your background. Don't be intimidated by your interviewers; some of them come across as a little stiff but everyone involved in the process is actually very kind. They just want to see who you are and make sure you aren't a hot mess. I'm assuming yours will be via zoom? We had to wear business attire, so just being professional is good.

Hope that helps!

Awesome. Thank you so much for your reply on this thread!

Just out of curiously - what is your background pre UVA CNL

I had an international relations BA and had worked in nonprofits for a few years. ZERO medical/clinical experience! No CNA/patient tech work, had barely spent time in hospitals, hadn't taken any science classes since freshman year (aside from the pre-reqs). I came in feeling really intimidated about other people's medical/science/EMT experience and I can tell you now its no indicator of future success. They want to see that you are caring and driven way more than anything else.

@ak2022

Can you discuss how you like the program?

Also, what does a typical day look like for you as a student?
