University of Va Health in Charlottesville

Can someone tell me if the U of V Health cancer center is attached to the hospital or is it a free standing clinic? Do they have a separate GYN ONC area to give chemo or are the patients mixed with other types of cancer patients? Thanks for the info

Hi!

I just moved to Charlottesville a couple months ago and started working at UVA as a new grad on L&D/PP/Nursery...

I'm not sure about whether or not the Cancer Center is freestanding--my guess is "no". I do know however, (you'll get a kick out of this one), currently, GYN/Onc. shares a floor with L&D/postpartum/nursery--they have the "West" end and share the "Central" section with PP/nursery (GYN=6 beds, PP= 22 beds). Eventually, PP is supposed to "take over" the central section, but I'm not quite sure where they would put the GYN beds...

Hope that helps a little!

I worked in L&D for a little while there about 2 years ago. Are you happy?

Well, to be fair, I've only worked here a month and so I've only oriented in nursery and postpartum so far. I start L&D next month. So far, I'm not happy with the whole Women's Place. That is partly from me coming from a brand new Women's Pavillion w/a good number of midwife deliveries, etc. It is the total opposite here, and I'm just not used to it. Hopefully things will perk up, but we'll see.

Yep, everyone gets a monitor, and an IV. I worked for two midwives in Cville, when they had Birth Center of the Blue Ridge. No more of that.

Although the irony is I was a 26 weeker with preeclampsia twin pregnancy. I actually worked in post partum/ante partum then. There is a place for ceters like UVa but it's hard. One of my good friends works at MJH in L&D. It's a lot different. Please keep me posted
