University of Tulsa Nurse Anesthetist Program

Good news for the people in Oklahoma. The University of Tulsa is up for initial accreditation from the Council on Accreditation for the Fall of 2016. Hopefully all goes well and we will finally have a CRNA program in the state of Oklahoma.

I haven't heard any other news. Tulsa is no longer listed on the COA website as under review for accreditation. Not sure what happened but I hope they will be under review again pretty soon. Oklahoma needs a CRNA program.

Word on the street is they've hired in a consultant to jumpstart the program and accreditation process. Rumor is they're shooting for a Fall 2018 matriculation. I'm not holding my breath, though. Information is scant.

University of Tulsa CRNA program is back on the COA website for the Fall of 2017 visit. Looks like they will visit in October of this year and the decision will be made in the spring. Looks like a 2018 or 2019 for the first class may be possible.

A little update since the COA will be visiting the University of Tulsa this month. Pending approval by the COA, it looks like TU will look to admit their first class for the Fall of 2018. I'm not sure when the application date or what the requirements will be. I plan to email the director later today to ask a few questions about everything.

Some more information after emailing the director of the program. They expect to know something mid-January. The program will be a DNP. Normal CRNA admission stuff with a BSN, 3.0 GPA, 1 year ICU, undergrad research and statistics classes. No mention of GRE or CCRN in conversation. Start date will be Fall 2018 if approved.

Another update. GRE and CCRN are not required but the CCRN will make the application look better. So who will be apply to the University of Tulsa with me?

I find it odd that they are omitting the CCRN or GRE requirement as a way to vet applicants. What i can see potentially happening is a significantly small class size (which is not a bad thing), acceptance based on who you know and not merit, and an extremely large price tag to boot. While it won't affect me (I'm going out of state for school), it does affect others in this area. It will be interesting to see how this program pans out.

I was fully expecting for them to require both the GRE and CCRN which means I would have had to rush to get everything done in time to apply. I will still be taking the GRE and getting my CCRN because I will still be apply to schools out of state as well. I would prefer to stay in Oklahoma but not if the cost is 100K+ which very well could happen since it is TU. Have you been accepted anywhere yet?

Yes. I was accepted to FIU in Miami, Florida. So big move in July. I'll start online doctoral classes in January. If you want the option of staying in OK try looking at TCU. There is a distance learning option with St Francis as the primary clinical site. You only have to spend one semester in residency in Fort Worth. Although it comes with a hearty price tag as well, 93K+.
