University of Scranton CRNA 2019

Published

Hey guys,

anybody apply to University of Scranton's CRNA program for 2019? have you heard back about interviews, etc?

I got accepted into Scranton for Fall 2019; but i declined it due to getting accepted into my first choice. Same thing with one of the schools in Minnesota, the director was unable to answer honestly when being asked : "how does the program embrace the diversity?" - I also got accepted, but did not feel that I would be a good fit. So, I declined the offer also.

Hey I got mine too! Congrats! Cheers to MAY!

Hello! I’m currently applying and was called for an interview for 2020 cohort. I wanted to know if you could tell me how to prepare for the interview?

I interviewed there last year. Arrive early if you want to go first because the first person who shows up is the first person interviewed. People from out of Town show up an hour early FYI. I arrived 15 minutes early and was the last person in the room. I think there were seven of us. Obviously I spent a very long time waiting for my interview and that mentally wore me out. You can always take time to grab coffee and a snack downstairs so you are good when it is your time to interview.Read about current events and legislation in the nursing anesthesia world. The AANA website is an excellent resource for this. Have a story of how you handled difficult interactions at work. Obviously they want to see that you handle this in a professional manner. Be able to tell them how you handle stress. There's like a 10 question quiz they give all the interviewees. One of the questions was about universal blood type recipient or donor. I forget. While you're waiting to be interviewed current students will be there to talk with you and answer your questions. Then on the way down to the interview you get a quick tour of the anesthesia areas. The interviews only last about 10 to 15 minutes and they can tell a lot in that short amount of time and also many questions are answered by the students beforehand making the interview short. I interviewed with the director and I think the junior director. And they are very friendly and not trying to grill you. be prepared for them to ask you if you interviewed anywhere else. I don't know what the good answer is. I will just go with honesty. It may be an attempt that trying to see if they need to accept you right away because other programs are already interested in you.

Ahhh! Omg! Thank you so much!! This really helped! I wish I could talk to you more about this. I know I can’t PM yet, due to not having a lot of posts yet. However, if you would or could, email me, that would be great! [email protected]

Hey everyone, I have a question for you all. Did you guys have your PA license before the application deadline or do they expect that by the time you start the program? Also the essay is a 300 words, are there any additional essays needed?

I will be having mine in a week and I had sent an email asking how the interview will be structured. They said short presentation, 10 questions quiz and then an interview with the director. She had said it will take about 4 hrs but probably because there will be other students. (I think).

While the program has undergone a lot of change in the past few years I never experienced a sense of racism at the school, in fact I felt the opposite. I did have negative experiences at clinical sites but they were not of a racial nature. I felt supported in my time there and in fact several of my minority classmates were recruited to local hospitals. I also recall having a rich sense of diversity in its NA program cohorts. I also saw the accountability level among all students being ramped up in the past few years which was needed.

Anyone aware of any local employers that assist in paying for the program?

I had my interview on the 6th of November for the 2020 cohort. I loved them! They were down to earth and easy to talk to. It is my favorite so far this year! They also are known for having a really great program. My friend who is a CRNA in Long Island told me she heard about what a great program it is! I am hoping this is my right fit!

Any questions in the interview that surprised you or was it straight forward. Thanks Again!
