University of San Francisco (USF) ME-MSN FALL 2023 (ORANGE COUNTY)

Published

Hello everyone!
I just made a thread since I don't see one for USF ME-MSN program for fall 2023 (Orange County Campus).

Posting this to get some opinions; The tuition at this school is very expensive, the same cost as it is at the main campus (which makes some sense because it's huge). The OC campus though is a single, rented building on the campus of Sisters of St. Joseph - like the previous person said it's a hallway within a church building. It lacks in resources (I.e. tutoring, labs, library, etc). If you have any thoughts on this, please share. The people I've spoken with make it seem like it's justified because you are barely on campus anyways. Just trying to make the cost make sense!

I went to USF in SF for undergrad and I thought it was a good experience. A small school compared to other major schools out there but it is in the heart of SF.

While I can only imagine you are not on campus very much for the program, I personally don't think that would be the best learning environment for me. I like having the option to be supported in every way possible (especially if I am paying that much)- being able to be around students + professors and having places to be on campus to study or relax even when not in school. They recently just updated the USF SF campus with new buildings and food courts which are very nice. While OC campus is a satellite school, which is supposed to be smaller, I personally would want more of a campus feeling even if I wasn't on it very much. The price needs to be justified. Note, I have not seen the simulation labs or actual classrooms just the outside.

Have you ever visited either campus before?

I had a 3.98 GPA for my last 60 units, A's for pre-requisites, and I had a lot of experience within community health. My letter of recommendations came from my internship manager and mentor. Let me know if you have any other questions! ?

Here's a website link: https://www.usfca.edu/nursing/programs/graduate/masters/financing-your-education

They do offer financial aid! You just have to apply for it and see if you qualify.

CSULB: 4.0 GPA -BS Community Health Education

Cumulative GPA: 3.56

Pre Reqs , All As only two Bs

1 year of being an EMT on the ambulance and 9 years of being an emergency room technician. Letters of Recs were written by two charge nurses and one ER director and one professor from CSULB.

Has anyone accepted their admission/ is going? They released responses so late. People still have to find housing and what not LOL. I really don't know much about this school, so I am not sure what to do.

I know an alum from this program and she really enjoyed it but the downside was the fact that they spent 2 years in the same 2 classrooms. I met her at CHLA when she was doing her clinicals

So, what is the total cost of tuition there for 2 years + living there? The breakdown is a bit confusing to me

Oh, nice! Does anyone know how getting a master's in nursing rather than just a regular BSN benefits you in the work force? Like is it worth it? IDK if I'm trying to be there for 2 years, vs an ABSN program LOL

I committed to USF when I first got the letter! The reason why I chose this program was due to the certifications. I've applied to the traditional programs and got denied by all of them and decided to do my undergrad in Health Sciences. For me, the reason why I chose ME-MSN route is because you're getting a master's out of it, clinical nurse leadership certification, and public health nurse certification (which also puts my undergrad degree to use) which was what I was looking for. You do get paid more if you have a higher degree and more certification.

I've also heard a lot of great things about USF. I don't really mind that it doesn't give a campus feel because I felt like I didn't utilize my campus during undergrad. However, it is expensive but in my opinion you get more for what you pay (comparing to other nursing programs). In the end, everyone is a nurse and if that's your end goal then I would definitely choose ABSN to save money. ?
