I applied for the Clinical nurse leader (non-nurse) program for summer 2012. Did anyone else apply? The wait is killing me.
Students live all over the bay area. I had to relocate from out of state for this program, and chose to live in the city in a neighborhood near school (Walking distance). It just depends on what your needs and wants are for housing. I guess you have some serious things to consider like whether or not you are willing to drive/commute to school each day, cost of living, whether you want to live alone or with roommates. etc.
Yes, a daily commute would definitely be too much! But I figured for the summer semester since classes are 3 days a week, I can do it until I figure out a living situation in SF and find roomates, etc.
So does anyone know what time and where the orientation is next Friday? That information is still not up on USF next steps website.
Just out of curiosity, what is your schedule and who are your professors??? Can't answer the guest at orientation question (I was out of the country for mine so not really sure what goes on there). Another tip: start getting your health requirements done now, BLS-CPR card, physical, and titers....some of these take a while and you don't want to have to be rushing around last minute and worrying about it at the end.
Hi Everyone!
Congrats to everyone on being accepted to USF's CNL! I've been following these posts for a while now (I'm a very, VERY interested prospective student), if you guys would mind sharing some advice i would SO appreciate it!
1.) Is there anyone in your cohort who is NOT from California? I live in New York, but will do anything/everything to make myself a more competitive applicant.
2.) undergraduate GPA/pre-req GPA?
3.) I dont live in california and I just feel like that puts me at a huge disadvantage!!
I will be applying for the summer of 2013 (finishing my pre-req's this fall, i have 4.0 so far!), i currently work in a magnet hospital on Long Island in the ICU as a CNA, and volunteer at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan - ANY advice would be super appreciated!!!
Thank you!!
Heid5469...I am a CNL 12, so I am in the cohort that started Summer 2011. I'm halfway through the program. I am not from California, did not live in California when I applied, and was accepted the first time that I applied. I ended up relocating to attend the program. Does that make you feel better?
Hey fashionistaJ, I'm also from Sacramento! I was in your shoes at the beginning of the semester where I was scrambling to find housing. It's too bad that they hold orientation so late so you can't coordinate living situations with your classmates. I ended up living on campus, which cost me an arm and a leg, but I was desperate. If you don't mind living with strangers then I suggest you check out Apartments for Rent - PadMapper Apartment Search for Oodle, Apartments.com, Rent.com, Kijiji, and Craigslist Apartments to find housing. It's pretty easy to find housing in San Francisco anytime of the year and the people here are all really chill. If you prefer to live with students then you should look at our school's off-campus housing wanted page. I will include the link at the bottom of the page. And there's always craigslist.
Hi DAS225,
Thank you for your input! Yes, that makes me feel better, are you one of only a few out-of-staters? Do you happen to know what the average undergrad GPA was for your cohort and other current students? I doing great in my pre-req's, and my undergrad GPA is above a 3.0 but i imagine lots of applicants/students have good gpa's.
Also, on the USF website, the admissions section mentions their "holistic" approach towards reviewing applicants i.e - life experience, reason behind choosing this career, work experience. Do you find this to be true of the admissions process?
Thank you!!!!

Hey everyone! I am also starting the summer cohort. I was wondering where everyone was planning on living in SF? Is anyone doing on-campus housing? Does anyone know where graduate students live around the area? Any advice would help! I look foward to meeting you all! Thanks!
