Hello,
Is anyone currently working on their USD application for the MEPN program? I was wondering about the volunteering hours and if you don't mind sharing your stats. Thank you!!:)

I just started a thread and then found this one :). I applied on the first and I have 310 volunteering hours and I'm still volunteering now. I think they want a minimum of 100. my prereq's are A's and B's and i'm taking two science courses this semester, Anatomy and Physiology. oh, and spanish. My overall GPA is average 2.85 so I ended up taking the GRE ( which was recommended if you have below a 3.0) Verbal=153, Quan=145, and writting=4.0.
Hello morganw1, I don't have close to 100 hours of volunteering but my GPA is 3.3 and I'm taking my last prerequisite class next semester ( microbiology). 95% of my prerequisites are A's and also I am an alumni from USD. I hope I can meet the minimum volunteering hours :/. I volunteer at sharp memorial and will start at Sharp Chula Vista soon :). Are you applying anywhere else ?
@vaguayo. Hello!
so far i've only applied to UCLA and USD. In the spring i'm applying to USF and NYU. Maybe a couple others it just depends. I had a hard time getting my recommenders to submit on time so I decided not to apply to a couple of fall schools + they were places or programs that didn't seem to fit my future goals/plans in the long run. I want to live and work in a city atmosphere. I was going to apply to Virginia Commonwealth and Vanderbilt but coming from California it didn't seem too appealing in the end. Also, Vanderbilt requires you to find your own preceptors which turned me off. And BC has a great program that I wanted to apply to but couldn't articulate why I would want to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. That was the only one closest to Acute Care and I felt not having experience in family medicine (volunteering) it just didn't seem to be a good fit for me. You?? you seem like you will have a strong chance of getting an interview and getting in. :)
I've volunteered on a Post-partum floor, Med-surge ( currently), Emergency Department, and Intensive Care Unit. Through a couple programs offering internships for pre-health professionals.
@morganw1 Hi, Wow that's awesome that you are applying to all those schools! I have 2 small kids so I kind of need to stay in San Diego plus my husband also works in San Diego . I'm pretty much stuck with applying to USD, CSUSan Marcos and National University. I volunteer in the telemetry department in the MICU and will also be a meal mate at Sharp Chula Vista where I basically help patients with their food and assist in feeding if they request it. I'm also buying my TEaS book and going to study for it so I can take it in January or Feburary . Have you taken the TEAS?
@vaguayo
I haven't taken the TEAS. The schools I picked didn't require it they just required the GRE or no standardized testing at all. I know a couple people who are applying to CSU San Marcos as well. I've heard it's a good program and it's shorter than most. I haven't heard anything on National University though. Good luck with the TEAS test!
I was trying to find a thread on CSU SM but I cannot find one or I just don't know how to look for it lol. I am taking a teas prep course so hopefully that helps me. I am aiming to score over 90 since I heard that CSU SM prefer students within that score. Thank you and good luck to you too!
