I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

For those accepted and looking for housing away from campus, I recommend Rustic Village. It's 5 to 10 minutes drive from the SON. It's 1 or 2BR apartment living, and if you have a roommate to split the rent, electric, and internet, it's under $500 per month. Maintenance is very quick. Plus, free heat, and amenities like a pool, basketball court, tennis court, movie library etc. A few of my cohort members live here, and I know other cohort students who live here too.

Here's a secret that few people know of. There's a free UR shuttle running from 730AM to 545PM from Strong Hospital (a short walk from the SON) to Corporate Woods (the corporate park adjacent to Rustic Village). I use it and save paying for parking and gas...plus the hassle of trying to find a parking spot in the morning.

Hello all! I am a student at Syracuse University and I've been researching ABPNN programs to go into after I graduate. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the stats are for accepted students? Like what their GPA's are and stuff, I just want to see if I have a chance of getting in.

@cjpurcel - The school doesn't list any stats regarding ABPNN admissions. However, I can give you a personal perspective as a current student who went through the process. I was accepted in first-round with an undergrad GPA of 3.5. I also had a year of on-and-off hands-on healthcare experience. However, I think that my essay, my recommendations, and interview were key in my acceptance. It seems they really consider at the application as a whole, so weak points of your application can be made up for by your exceptionally strong areas. For example, I know a student accepted with a GPA of 3.0 but with extensive healthcare experience that seemed to make up for a GPA on the lower-end. Also, I know they also give points for those with background in the sciences (beyond the pre-reqs), but students in the program do come from a variety of majors and careers.

It is competitive. I think in my application cycle there were 480 or so applicants, ~200 invited for interview, and 56 were accepted. My advice - give it a shot...can't hurt! If you get in, its top-notch program.

Hello all- I have a few questions regarding the prereqs that U of R offers online. Is it doable to take 3 of them in one session? Also, do they prefer you to take the prereqs from them online. Finally, do any of them transfer to other programs, or are they strictly for people planning on going to U of R? Because I don't want to waste my time and money taking the classes from them and then not getting into the ABPNN program...then what would you do with those courses you took lol? I did the nutrition, microbiology and A&P 1 & 2 through the online U of R courses. There are no labs so they might not transfer to other schools.....stats and developmental psych I took online through the local community colleges ( at a huge savings) and they accepted those just fine. Around Rochester, It's almost impossible to get into the micro and A & P at the community colleges - so I didn't have much choice. Which ones are you looking to take.... A & P def took the most time but nutrition and micro were less intensive. Unless they have changed, they are all self study modules with quizzes at the end of each unit. No papers or discussions....

sunny- I still need to take a&p 2, micro, and nutrition...I already have the other 2. I want to apply for January, so I probably should sign up to take them all this summer...maybe one in the fall. Since I only got a B in both the prereqs I already took at another school, I want to achieve A's in the ones I have left. I am getting nervous about my chances of getting in. I only have a 3.39 cumulative GPA from my first Bachelor's Degree. On the plus side, I got a job as a PCT at Highland Hospital, so I hope that strengthens my application.

You actually can even take two now and one in the fall, you can be in the process when applying, as long as you will have completed it before January. I might recommend pairing nutrition with one or the other and then doing one in the fall. Welcome to Highland! I just started there in February. BTW, I got in with only a 3.2 GPA. I really think the interview and other experiences mean a lot to them as well. PM me if you have any ?????

@bwin88- Thank you so much for your response! I feel like im hearing that most students have experience in the field.. I dont I am a 20 year old undergrad in my jr year at SU working on a dual BS in Public Health and Psychology. I have volunteered at medical centers and clinics but I dont have any kind of training or medical background. Do you know if any of your classmates are right out of their undergrad like I would be when I apply?
