Hi! I'm looking at applying for the ABPNN at U of R. Does anyone know what GPA, major, age, and experiences they are looking for. I completed all the pre-req's and I'm graduating in Dec 14'. I haven't been able to find anyone that was willing to share their background info who already has been accepted in the program! Any details would be GREAT!!
Tons of tips and pointers! First off they are not kidding about the amount of studying you will do. Don't fret though, I made it and so can you guys! It's a great program and prepares you well for a job and for the NCLEX. Your first semester may feel overwhelming because this is an accelerated program, but you will get the hang of everything and develop a flow.
Patho/pharm is not as scary as people say. We had (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) as professors and they were wonderful! (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) also teaches (she wrote the textbook for the class), but I never had her so I cannot say anything about her. For patho/pharm I rarely touched the book because everything that we needed to know were in the slides... so, study off the slides and you guys will do great. The end assignment for patho/pharm is the only time I used the textbook (keep it though for care plans). All the tests for this class were pencil and paper. Nursing assessment is a great intro class before you get into clinicals. The best way to study for this class is think through all the procedures and think what am I looking for here and what the results can be (will make sense soon)!! You guys will have fun in lab and you'll love your clinicals! First day of clinical is always scary, but just jump in and overcome your fears and start learning how to be a great nurse- have fun with it!! Care plans will seem rough, but you will get the hang of them... you'll be doing them all the way through your last semester/ med surg. Keep a folder on your computer for all the medications that you do because you will be doing a lot of them especially in med surg and it's nice to just have them done already. Your second semester is fun!! It's OB, Peds, and Psych this is also the semester that let's you "relax" a little bit. Med surg is not as bad as it seems! Study using the slides and pay attention during class so you can take notes. The clinical assignments for med surg are the most overwhelming, but make your life easier and keep all the care plans you do up till then and keep that folder of med cards!! Also, you will love Capstone!
Let me know if you guys have anymore questions! =]

I'm already a Rochester resident (actually Brockport), so I'm all set with housing. Check out the Facebook group for our class (University of Rochester ABPNN September 2015) for information on housing. I hope that helps.
