I recently took a school tour of University Portland over my spring break and I fell in love with it. I'm a Jr. in high school and getting ready to apply for college shortly, University of Portland accepts applications starting September 1(only 4 months away) so I'm a little nervous. I have a weighted GPA of 3.75 and an unweighted GPA of 3.66. I'm a cheerleader, in concert band, in zero period leadership and am taking extra honors courses. I do extra hours of community serice for fun (I'm the Youth Mission Delivery Chair for my cities Relay for Life and am hoping to become an Oncology nurse when I graduate nursing school), but I'm still really nervous about getting into the University, my mind is always telling me I need to do better. Could any students or alumni ease my troubled mind and tell me more about the program and the school??? Also I don't really understand the process of getting into the School Of Nursing and I was wondering if anyone could explain it to me?

When I applied (four years ago) it was super easy to get in. I didn't even have to write an essay or pay an application fee. I'm guessing things may have gotten a little harder since then so I'm not sure how much I can help you on that end of things. Looking at everything you listed I'd say you're just what they're looking for. As for the nursing school portion of things. If you are accepted as a freshman and you maintain your GPA (above 2.75 I believe) then you are automatically in the upper division nursing program (the actual nursing program). It's a pretty sweet deal because it's pretty competitive out there to get into other nursing programs. Some people look at the cost and decide to take their chances later on, but not knowing what will happen in the future, it's definitely safer to try to get in early. I started as a freshman and it was definitely the best decision for me. Hopefully this somewhat answers your question!
