University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) DNP 2024

Published

Hey everyone. I was recently accepted into UNCW's DNP FNP 2024 program as a FT student. It is a 3 year program. I want to work full time my first year as clinical do not start until the second year. In your opinion is this doable? What is your experience going to NP school full time and working full time? Also, do you have any study resources you can recommend to utilize during school? Thanks

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

No too much to help, but I did my RN-BSN at UNCW and loved this school!  I did my MSN at another school, non-clinical degree, but had clinical hours in informatics to complete, I worked my 3-12s. 4 nurses on my unit have finished their FNP/AGNP in the last year and all of them worked during their programs (for the most part-took a day off here an there to prepare for bigger tests).

I looked at doing a DNP, even at UNCW, but they did not have a non-clinical program for me. I am glad I did not do a DNP. Personal opinion is that it is not worth it. Kind of like the whole ADN/BSN thing. A DNP and an NP w/MSN is not much different, unless things have changed in the last 4 years or so. To me, I did not need another 2 years of student debt. The programs I looked at didn't seem to complement my masters.

Good luck though!  UNCW is awesome!

I totally understand. Graduate school has become more and more expensive. Thank you for the feedback. Hopefully my experience will be as positive as yours.
