University of Michigan DNP Fall of 2020

Hi All,

I didn't see a thread for Umich's Primary Care DNP programs for fall of 2020 and was wondering if anyone applied before the early application deadline of Jan. 15th. Anyway... just a thread for us to enjoy the anticipation of the admission decision wait game together ☺️ Good luck to everyone!!

I applied to the DNP-FNP and got an acceptance email 3 weeks ago. Did KIRA interview 3 or 4 months prior and heard absolutely nothing until getting my acceptance email. Do not stress if you haven't heard anything! Decisions are made on a rolling basis all through March.

 @mcjobson I was accepted into the DNP-FNP program, I applied to the 4-year plan but I will be prepared to do the 3-year plan if I have to. The 4 year plan has 2-3 courses a semester, so around how much time can I expect to have to take off from work each week? (1, 2 days a week?) (The time REQUIRED to take off eg, scheduled lecture/clinical shifts).

I know a lot of variables go into answering that question, I just want to be mentally prepared and have an idea of how it might affect my work schedule. UMSN has only given me vague answers so far. I also emailed [email protected] like you mentioned before but am awaiting a reply.

You know things have changed since I was there due to COVID. So, I’m not sure what kind of time commitment you’ll have. However, I will just say that you should play it by ear. Try to work as much as you feel is strictly necessary. If you need to drop back at work, you can try. Just recognize that Michigan is VERY good at helping you with financial issues. So if you feel overwhelmed, there are options. Also, you have some of the best faculty I have ever worked with. Michelle Pardee, Beth Ammerman, Beth Kuzma, April, etc. will work very hard to make sure you’re successful. Don’t worry too much.

I just want to echo that the faculty are phenomenal. Your first semester is probably the hardest, simply because of the transition to grad school and work schedule. Most of the acute care folks work 1.0-0.6 FTE. It’s definitely doable. I actually dropped back for the second semester based on the first, but realize now it’s probably not necessary. 

The pandemic changed things, but I was still able to attend assessment lab in person, have standardized patients for my MUTA/gyn exams, and planned to do finals assessments in-person until we were all ordered home. Faculty did a great job transitioning. I think things will begin to normalize by this fall. Be sure to connect with your classmates— they are a huge resource and one of the reasons you likely decided on Michigan. Pharmacology will likely be your hardest course your first semester. It’s a firehose drinking fountain, but you’ll adjust!

Hey guys! I got an email saying I’ll hear back in June. Do you know if I have a good chance of admission in June or is this a bad sign? ?

@mt1004 I received the same letter and was accepted last June! Pretty sure they accept between 40-50% of applicants! Chances are very good! Good luck and don’t stress ?

Don’t fret! Still great odds. Plenty of smart, talented, and driven people were second round admits in my acute care program. I realize none of this will stop the anxiety, but you’re truly in a great position still. ?
