University of Miami vs MDC

Published

Hey everyone! So I just got into the University of Miami's accelerated program for spring 2012, and I'm still waiting to hear from MDC for their accelerated program. Besides cost can anyone tell me any major differences between these two programs I should consider? Things within the programs, or after graduating? I want to make the best decision possible! Thanks!!

Hi there! I am on the same boat as you. Although the cost at UM is high, I'm leaning towards them for two reasons (and you can call me biased because well, it's the truth)

1. I graduated from UM in December 2009; I then went to MDC to finish my pre requisites for the nursing program and let me tell you, the 2 schools are worlds apart. Starting from the classrooms, to the professors and down to the students. YOU CANNOT COMPARE. I'm not judging, I'm just giving my opinion that the overall experience for me at UM was 10 times better and I feel their nursing program will offer the same. At UM, I never felt lost, MAJORITY of the time the staff and faculty were helpful and the student body was diverse and friendly.

2. If you graduated from the Accelerated BSN program, you are graduating with a BSN. MDC only offers you an Associates degree with preparation to sit for the N-CLEX. I have many friends that are nurses and they all tell me to get my BSN if possible because a lot of places will not consider you without one. It sounds better to do a BSN program in 16 than the one year program at MDC, sit for the RN and THEN do the bridge program for however long that takes.

Well, there you go; you have my opinion. Hope it helps you decide.

I am thinking about both programs. which one did you choose and how is it? did you graduate already?
