University of Miami Accelerated BSN Program

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi there! I received my acceptance letter for the Summer 2011 Accelerated BSN Program at UM. I was just wondering if anyone who is already in this program could give me some insight on how they like it. Some of my main questions are is it possible to work part-time throughout the program, and is it difficult to obtain scholarships, etc.? I am from Miami, but I currently live in Ohio, so I have been going back and forth as to whether I should stay here or go back to where it's sunny. :) Anyhow, if anyone who is going through the program or has heard anything about the program has any info they can give me, it would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS!

I got accepted to the program as well! I found out the 2nd week in December! Good Luck to everyone! My plan is accelerated bsn straight into FPMSN

congratulations!!! i have a similar plan. i want to either become an arnp or nurse anesthetist...not sure yet.....

I had applied for the last fall, but due to full capacity they postponed my application for the summer. They have had my application since March of last year, I believe. The lady told me today that I was accepted.I asked her about receiving a credit evaluation before receiving a decision letter. She said that that was weird bacause normally you receive a decision letter first, and then de credit evaluation, she checked and told me that I had been accepted that I have not received my decision letter since they are just in the process of printing them. I am very happy, but I do not believe it until I see the decision letter. I will keep you posted. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that I was told by the admission office that the accelarated option do not have an early decision option. They review the applications by the order they receive them.

There is no more Fall admissions. All applications were due on December 1st 2010. They have changed the Fall Start to January start and the first January class is starting Jan 2012 with applications due October.

Visit Website as the changes were made within the early Fall 2010. I was not aware till I called and spoke with admissions because two different websites list different application due dates.

But to clarify there is no early admissions everything was due December 1st 2010 for May 2011 start and the next start date after that is January 2012!

Good Luck everyone!

Hope that helped

Sure did, thanks for clarifying. I was wondering why there were 2 websites out there with conflicting info! I have reduced hopes with Miami now ... :( ... with rolling admissions, I will be competing for a smaller number of seats.

izo,

I totally had the feeling you were accepted. i got accepted into barry (but for pre-nursing since i was missing chem..) and they sent me the same thing with my financial aid documents. so congratulations! is UM your first choice? are you waiting on other schools? and thanks for letting us know they said there was no early decision..this is the website i somehow found when i was applying into the program...

http://www6.miami.edu/sonhs/programs/bsn_acc_adrd.html

they have 2-3 websites with conflicting info, but i either reallllllly lucky or just made it by the skin of my teeth..

i filled out my common app dec 1st, got most of my transcripts in by the 2nd ( i took this one lousy college credity course in hs and ALWAYS forget about getting those transcripts in and never have extras!), and received a letter dated dec 3rd they received my application. i am being considered for the may (summer 1 entry) program. i called and verified today after i read these posts and saw my hope dwindling away. she would not give me any info though, she told me i "would be notified by the united states postal service" lol. so im still in the game here for may...

i REALLY hope i get into mays class, because i am going back to my old job (which i dislike very much!) in the meantime to try and make, and save, some money before starting school. i couldnt IMAGINE having to work there for another whole year...

paco, dont give up hope yet..because its a recent change and rolling admissions and alot of people are deferring their enrollment because of cost (which im sure is a reason people arent applying as well)

Thanks yunas ... I won't give up until the fat lady sings (which in our case will be in the form of a letter "by the United States Postal Service" ... LMAO!). I too made it by the skin of my teeth thinking I was applying by early decision. I had planned to attend info sessions @ UM since Sept but every time I tried to go, work prevented me from making the trip (I live several hours north of Miami). Hence my cursing my job and desire to finally break free from it and enter the career I love. I'm determined NOT to return to my present job come May. I have to make a move somehow. If it is not UM, it will be another nursing school and if not that it will be Plan B or C. Last year my plan B was to return to my job and I can't tell you how awful that has been. This is THE worst bureaucratic year at my job, I am soooooo ready to leave it this year. I have to make it happen.

lol yes the USPS thing kinda made me crack up on the inside...i feel the same way. the last two jobs i had which are careers, ive hated. but the money thing plays a big part..i live up in jensen beach and let me tell you it is hard to find a good paying job here...i am not giving up until i get that letter as well!

speaking of letters. the graduate business school of UM decided to send me a letter today, which made my heart skip a beat when i saw the big U up top. hats off to them for almost stopping my heart prematurely:yeah: lol

we are all going to make it happen! i feel it in my bones!

I have not received any letter yet. Even though she said I was accepted, I would not believe until is official. I just hope I can receive the letter soon so I can apply before the deadline for the scholarship. Let's keep our fingers cross.

Paco, did you apply to FAU as well? FAU is my first option, but I have heard is extremely competitive. I just applied to FAU and U. of Miami.

Is this Izopata or someone else? Who did you talk to that let you know you were accepted.? Everytime I call they make a big deal out of it and tell me to wait for the letter. Now that makes me uneasy...

Are you also applying for an MBA?? *cough* overachiever *cough* ... LMAO!! (yeah, how hypocritical I am: this coming from a guy with a freaking law degree!) :D

Please tell me you feel it in your femur (a bigger bone than your phalanges)!!! LOL!!

When is that scholarship deadline? That is my only hope and window of opportunity of ever attending UM. Without it, I am afraid it's a no go.

Did not apply to FAU, there was something about the school that FOR ME was not a good fit. Can't recall what that was. Don't interpret that to mean that it is not a good school. It was definitely not that. It was something in the application process I think, or perhaps something that the school does not have that I want? Dont know. I really cannot recall. And for some odd reason I do recall why I did not apply to USF (writing sample ... W T * ???) and UF (wanted Dev Psych and Stats within last 7 years, no one else required this and I was NOT retaking just for UF).

I found this quite unusual as well that you were told on the phone of your acceptance, particularly when that woman I spoke to made VERY clear (like very "United States Postal Service" clear :D) that they do not give admissions decisions over the phone. She also told me twice that letters are going out soon using a tone as if to say, "I'm not going to tell this to you again, and I want to get off this phone, you are like the 100th applicant to call me today."
