if anyone got into um nursing program post here. :redpinkhe introduce yourself!

Hi Linzilou. Congratulations! I graduated in 2004 with a BS in psychology/sociology from Radford University in Virginia. I did consulting for awhile and realized that there is no way I can be at a desk all day. I've been working as a medical assistant for the past 1 1/2 at an ob/gyn office and I'm hoping to end up as a labor and delivery nurse. I'm really looking forward to moving to Florida and beginning a career in Nursing. I chose UM because the program is so short, so Florida will be new to me. But, I love the ocean and I'm looking forward to a new experience. I can't wait to meet everyone there!

hey guys :)

my name is jackie, i'm 24, and i am also starting the program in may. i graduated in '06 from fiu with a bachelors in biology and minor in psychology. i have been teaching high school biology ever since and i am absolutely ready for a career change. i always loved the field of medicine and after being accepted into med school in the carribbean i completely changed my mind!!! i'm very excited to begin the program and meet all of you. see you guys soon!

Hey acurarsxstar congrats! I got my scrubs yesterday! I can't wait to start the program and put some faces to these posts!

Specializes in Neurology, Neurosurgery.

Congratulations and welcome to the program. I can absolutely understand you wanting a career change from teaching. I have been subbing while taking prereqs and hate every minute!!

thanks so much :) yeah subbing some times might be even worse than teaching!!

has anyone had issues when going to get drug tested? i spent an hour and a half waiting this morning at quest diagnostics and they later told me that the location where i was at did not do the drug testing. the letter we get from the databank tells us we can go to any location. call before you show up just to make sure they can do the test at the location you want to go to, apparently there's only two locations in miami from quest that will do the drug test.

I had to go to Quest 4 times before I was able to get the test done!! It's impossible to get there if you work durning the day. The times that they give the drug tests aren't very convenient!

Hi everyone. Has anyone bought a laptop yet? I have an apple so I guess I have to buy a Dell instead...bummer. Anyway, I have been looking on the tpc's site and the dell's are way more expensive then buying directly from Dell. I 'm just wondering if you guys have bought one and which one you decided on?

Hi..i have an hp..i understand that mac is not compatable with lots of school programs..but for buying a pc..go ahead and get the cheapest one you can find...but go onto newegg.com and look at the reviews then decided on which one you want to get...Remember this is your laptop for at least four years...nursing school is for one year...they can make suggestions...but its hard for people to go into more expense...for $39K...they should have a room filled of computers for us to work on:)

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it directly from dell or through the school's tech center. It looks like they recommend the tech center and I'm afraid if I don't buy one they recommend I might have problems. I agree, they should give us computers...haha. Not likely though.

Hey guys,

I bought a mac after the first accelerated semester- they didn't come out with a HESI clause until second semester... and I just rent out a computer to take the HESI tests with. No big deal... they also have computer labs so you can take the exam on as well.

Also, if anyone is going to park on campus at the SONHS, I have a parking pass that expires Aug 15, 2009 and would like to sell it to another nursing student. FYI, the summer term parking is about 7$ a day or 200$ total, and you have to buy a new pass when you get back from the Aug 1-27th break for the new school year.

Please pass the word on to anyone interested in buying it or other nursing/housing stuff I have. I will be posting on craigslist I think...

So last may, they bumped up the scholarship deadline without notifying people... so make sure everything is done and ready to go by the first day of orientation. Also have an interview outfit picked out- it will be a panel/group/individual interview.

She lied... for the 08-09 school year we had 80 and we are down to 64 in the last term... About half of those dropped before class actually started and the other half either failed or dropped out after first term...
