Hi everyone! I didn't see a thread for the Spring 2023 class for UH Sugarland's 2nd Degree program so thought I'd go ahead and start it off. I currently have a Bachelor's in Marketing from UH and would love to hear from others who are applying as well.
Best of luck!

That’s what I read as well.
For those that already paid and registered for the drug test, how do we go about scheduling it? I assumed it was going to be at the school on the day of the interview but now I’m not sure.

Thanks for being here!! It's so great to have someone that's currently going through the program!
Do you mind letting us know what a typical schedule for you is every week? How many days of class from what time to what time, clinicals, etc. We know it can be quite intense but if you could give us an idea just how busy you are, that'd help a lot!
Also I did hear in previous years that quite a lot of people drop out of the program due to the intensity. Can you also please let us know the size of your cohort to start and how many there are left currently?

So nice, thank you! ? Would you mind telling us if you all ever get any days off (holidays, breaks, etc.)? I wasn’t able to find an ABSN calendar and was just curious. I’m afraid of emergencies happening and stuff like that.

I’m also curious about this. I thought it may take me to a page where I could schedule a day/time for the drug test but nope haha. I thought I may have missed something. I wonder when they will send us more information about it.

Hello yes! 1st semester you will have 1 weekday off and then lab mondays 8-5 class TTH 8-5 and then on Friday or Wednesday you will have clinical 6:30am-7pm (literally like a 14 hour day with driving)!! Expect about 60-80 hours of studying each week. I'm not trying to intimidate any of y'all by any means but 1st semester don't expect to eat, shower, or drive in your car without listening to Youtube or lecture videos. You have absolutely no free time and the hardest part about this program is being so strict with time management so you can take care of your mental health. I know this is going to hurt besties but DELETE TIKTOK for the first month of school until you get the hang out of it. Even if you "think" you have the will power to be on it just 10 minutes before bed that's 10 minutes youmore you could have spent sleeping!! Also tbh I never got more than 5/5.5 hours of sleep first semester. I want to say we started with almost 100 people in our cohort and we now have 60. This will be the hardest thing that you have ever done in your life but it is so so worth it and it truly flies by. The faculty is amazing and will help you through this program, it's not like undergrad they truly invest in you and want you to succeed. Y'all can do this and y'all will kill it!! I don't say any of this to scare you I just want y'all to be prepared. I am more than happy for any of y'all to call me or send me voice memos about concerns or doubts. #1 advice is to make friends immediately and lean on one another. No one knows everything and the people that "seem" like they know everything don't. Don't compare yourselves and stay in your own lane! Y'all will be great rockstar nurses!! For the interview just be yourself and really KNOW why you want to be a nurse. This profession only gets harder and harder and you can't just say you want to help people because it's truly not enough. Authenticity is key and if you don't know something you just don't know something. One of our professors at clinical gave me the advice that I will cherish for the rest of my career she said "I love I don't know this answer can you help me figure it out no question is too dumb I don't care what people think about me nurses. The scary nurses are the quiet ones that think they can figure out everything by themselves and never ask for help because of pride. This is someones health on the line that you are responsible for, don't let your pride cost you your license or someones life"!! good luck and I'll be praying for so much peace and confidence over y'all interview day!! Reach out to me please with ANYTHING!!

IT IS SOOOOO long OMG but really try to get to know the staff and be really genuine. They have been doing this for a long time so they can spot a robotic artificial answer from miles away. Just be yourself and don't be afraid to ask questions ya know!

I reached out to the student affairs director and asked about the drug screen scheduling. She told me that all you have to do is register and pay for the drug screen - there is no need to schedule anything.
So based on her response, I am assuming the drug test will be taken on the day of the interview on campus.
Hope that helps!
