University of Cincinnati WHNP Spring 2020

Published

Hi all! I've applied for University of Cincinnatis online WHNP program and was wondering if anyone else had applied or is currently in their program!

Yes, I had to check the email signature, but yes it was my "success coordinator" I had to meet. They probably won't contact until October, per the email, however I had to ask some questions regarding my site visit so I met mine.

Anyone heard from their success coordinator and registered?? I emailed mine but nothing yet...not sure what’s up. I’ll email the advisor I worked with if I don’t hear by tomorrow.

I have not.

I received her name on Monday and have checked my UC email daily to be sure I didn't miss it.

I was able "pre register" on Catalyst - put my classes in the shopping cart and validate them but am not registered, yet. So...one step closer I think.

And I submitted my application for tuition assistance with my employer.

Hopefully the coordinator will contact us soon to iron out the details. ?

Okay good at least I’m not alone haha. I haven’t put anything in my cart yet as in my initial masters program at another university they registered all the classes for me.
You are probably one step ahead as you said! Good luck with it all!

I got an email from my success coordinator letting me know when I could register and asking me to schedule a phone meeting with her. I haven't done so yet but I did put my two classes in my shopping cart.

Thanks for input. Hoping to hear soon!

My success coordinator emailed me and I have a phone call scheduled w/ her tomorrow afternoon! ?

She also emailed a copy of my semester class schedule for the entire program. Woohoo!

Hey all! Looking into this school for WHNP in the further. Are you all doing the program full time or part time? How long do they predict it will take if you go part time?

thanks in advance!

I am not in the WHNP program at UC. I am in the HI program. I asked about going part-time (taking summers off to match my son's school schedule, vacation, etc). And that does not look possible based on when classes are offered. So, for me, I will have to go full-time completing the program in 6 semesters (2yrs).

I know others who are taking one semester off each year (summers) and it will take them 3 yrs to finish. I can't recall which program they are enrolled in. So, I think it just depends on when classes are offered and how many semesters it takes to graduate. Your success coordinator should be able to draft another Academic Plan for you so you can see the difference between the two and make a determination.

One other consideration is finances. I am using Tuition Assistance from my employer which caps out each year (thus I wanted to extend to 3yrs to get more from my employer and less from loans).

However, if you are going to be using FAFSA loans, my coordinator said you have to take 5cr for monies to be disbursed. Then there are repayment stipulations - like having to begin repayment within 6mos of not taking classes. Also, I'm not sure when interest begins to accrue. So, just some terms to keep in mind depending on which type of loan you accept.

Hope that helps! And good luck...!

Getting close now!

I just ordered my books. So excited.

I know, I'm a nerd, right? :)

I am currently in the WHNP program and I love it so far. I am actually thinking of switching into the CNM pathway though but I am not positive. Pretty similar curriculum but just more training in the obstetrics aspect. You do have to secure your own preceptors which is difficult and frustrating so start reaching out to people now!

Hey EmilyRae08! Are you doing the WHNP program full time or part time? Do they give a part time option? I’m looking into WHNP programs possibly for the future!

Hi Emilyrae08,

for securing our own preceptors do you know which areas of nursing it has to be in? Currently, I work in fertility, and I’m hoping I can just ask my NP there for shadowing/clinical opportunity.
