University of Cincinati Online CNM program

I was interested also for down the road. I have heard good things but can't seem to gte solid answers regarding clinical placement options. It only recently went online only and I can't help but wonder if they were having difficuties finding clinical placements as a brick & mortar program.

I'm curious to know anything about this school as well. What do you mean clinical placements? I thought you had to find your own preceptors and such, much like I thought how Frontier worked?

Frontier has been in the business of distance education midwives for a long time. What is more attractive about U of Cin. Just curious?

I like the small class size. I like the way the curriculum is set up, it's different than frontier. You don't have to visit the campus, at all.

I've been very pleased with them so far. I know Frontier is the Gold Standard for this forum, but there are some people out there that are interested in OTHER schools.

yes I am biased towards Frontier as a graduate, I admit it. I received a great education there. and they have been doing distance for 18 years so they really know how to do it. but ofcourse there are other very good schools out there and each person will fi d they have a preference.

Actually its great if you already have a preceptor in my mind as far as Frontier. But while I was at Frontier bound they gave each of a list of potential sites where previous Frontier students have done their clinicals. Base on your geographic locations some were shorter or longer than others. Like I had 5 possible sites to look into. And some have to do investigation or relocating for a couple of months and bang out the clinical requirements.

I agree not one school can fit every ones agenda. I tend to look into the school's mission and philosophy and it so happened that Frontier fit mines perfectly. At first I was kind of reluctant in having to make two trips but than I realized its ONLY two trips. Plus the Frontier Bound allowed me to meet my classmates, bond, learn about the rich history of the school, and it was great to recieve attentive encouragement.

I'm glad you found a program other than Frontier that fits your goals and that you can share your experience with others who are interested in U of C:)

I know a person who attended U of C and actually just graduated. Her ONLY complaint thru the entire program has been the lack of clinical instructors and facilities to deliver at. There is an issue in my immediate area with lack of CNM's and CNM friendly facilities. U of C allows you to use an OB/GYN for a portion of your clinical experience. The remainder of her clinical experience was set up thru a facility 8 hours away where she would travel 1 time a month for 5 days at a time.

Hers was probably a very unique situation as we really lack CNM in this area and then they had to be approved by U of C, etc..... Other than that - she LOVES that school and has had zero complaints.

She also was attending full time and working on a very casual basis so she could get thru this program as quickly as possible.

She loved every aspect of her program, except the clinical portion and really she loved the facility she did clinicals at, she just hated driving down there once a month for 5 days at a time but CNM deliver about 90% of the babies at this facility - so she got tons of really great and awesome experience.

Thanks for your response, and that's great to hear! Fortunately for UC, everyone's clinical experience is going to vary so much. I actually live in Kansas, and will have to find my own clinical sites here, I'm also willing to travel to get the experiences I need, so that's not much of a problem for me.
