University of Calgary Nursing Transfer January 2017

World Canada CA Programs

Published

I applied to the U of C Winter 2017 program! I took the Athabasca University A/P course and haven't done well in it due to some family health issues that have taken most of my time. It is strange for me as that course comes in way below what i am used to getting. I have a 89.46 major average at the University of Waterloo. Unfortunately due to the uniqueness of my program there, most of those high average courses wont transfer and they will probably end up taking my lowest marks. I am really confused about how they calculate averages though. I know that an 80-84 is a 3.7 but then it drops to 77-79.9 is a 3.3. So how do we know what is in between that? Also i have courses transferring from an exchange in Australia but they wont tell me what they translate to in my GPA. I think that i am actually about to go crazy from the anxiety that i feel not knowing these things! It is 1 am and i am frantically searching for answers when i work at 4 am. Can anyone help me out? Also when i called they told me that the cutoff is 3.07 BUT that the faculty will release a higher one later on. Good luck everyone! :)

Is there any taster student who has gotten accepted? If so what was you GPA?

@ marlakas, I applied for d degree route

@olajumoke, the link I'm attaching here should be able to help you in calculating your GPA whether your school used percentages or letter grades! If the Athabasca courses you've taken fall in the last 10, then they will be used to calculate your GPA, along with other courses from other institutions to add up to 10 courses. Sorry I hope that wasn't too confusing!

@olajumoke, I contacted the undergrad admissions office via 4032107625 for info. the GPA conversion link provided by @redcoat52 is useful. However, if you had your first degree outside Canada and/or the US, the international admissions office will have to evaluate your foreign degree transcript to match the grades here. I do not know how this is done but that was what I was told when I inquired about GPA calculation for foreign degrees. I hold a foreign degree. If you know your grade range in a course, you can use the link provided and you will arrive at something close. (for example, in my country, an A is any score >70; however U of C will determine if it is a B-, B, B+, A-, A or A+ but I don't know how it is done). Maybe someone in the forum can explain better. same 5 prerequisites and 5 last courses in your undergrad - the courses with highest grades will be selected. I hope this helps and I wish you the very best.

Thanks Redcoat52 and Monde, I called and was told they are still on 3.6 and that I should ear from them hopefully by mid November

Hey there,

For those who have been admitted did any of you receive an email about getting in or was it only your status on your student centre that changed? Im just wondering if there will be an email notification or if its just up to checking daily.

Thanks in advance!

@kswain8,

I didn't get an email. It was the status on student centre that changed. I also got an admission letter in the mail the following day. I'll advise you check daily. Cheers!

Thank you Monde!

I actually just checked (for the second time this morning) and it changed from a green circle to the check mark! I am over the moon as this is my second year applying! I am anxious to receive more information from the department and be able to register for classes once my deposit has been processed!

For everyone who is still waiting, I had called a few times and got different answers as to when my application would be reviewed. One person in the admissions office told me 2-4 weeks and then another told me its usually 4-6 weeks after your transcripts and application have been finalized. Today is 4 weeks on the dot to when my transcripts got sorted out, so for people who are still waiting, keep that in mind as to when your application became complete and showed the green circle.

Good luck to everyone!

Do you mind me asking your gpa?

Congrats kswain8, I am so happy for you. Can we know your GPA also which route did you apply for and did you do another course to increase your GPA for your second application?

I applied to the degree holder route and have a 3.63 GPA.

I think that the admissions office is still working through the applications of those who got their transcripts in leading up to September 30, so I assume that once they have filtered through those and sent out acceptances to anyone above a 3.6 they will then start lowering the GPA based on the amount of spots left.

I spent the last year taking a bunch of courses (I think I took 6) to upgrade my GPA trying to get it as high as I could manage while also working full time. Last year when I applied I had a 3.4.
