University of Calgary January 2019

Hello, future nurses!

I'm a current U of C student who applied through the degree holder route. I'll be graduating at the end of this year. Please feel free to post any questions here!

Another round of applications is starting soon for the January 2019 intake of Transfer and/or Degree Holder students. Here's the U of C page for their info:

One of the most common questions is whether the courses you have taken meet the faculty's pre-requisites. The best way to be sure is to email a screenshot of your transcript to [email protected] and ask if you are missing anything.

Important note! As of 2019, the faculty is changing the schedule for the summer terms.

"We will compress all courses in Term 4 and Term 7 to be offered over a 9-week period from late April to the end of June. The result would be an intense spring term, but students would have no scheduled nursing courses during July and August."

While having 2 months off sounds great for some, it causes trouble for others (student loans, jobs, child care etc.). Please be aware of this change before applying.

Best of luck!

Did they offer you admission yet?

No. My application status just show received. But I don’t know when the offer gets sent out.

Then you have to keep on checking on your status. They only send admission letter after they have offered you admission. All I know is that, they started offering admission since mid September.

Thank you!! Do you know when they stop offering admissions. And is it competitive through the transfer route?

Offering of admission will stop in December. Both Degree and Transfer routes are competitive. Which route did you use?

Please do anyone knows what to do next after accepting your offer of admission and pay acceptance fee?

Does anyone have any success stories with being accepted off of the waitlist? I was notified yesterday. I applied with 3.6 to the degree holder route.
I will be moving to Calgary from B.C. with my husband and 2 year old if I get into the program. Am getting super antsy to just know one way or the other as there are so many factors to sort out and not a ton of time!

I was accepted beginning of the week with a 3.74 GPA if I calculated correctly. My university mailed my transcripts on August 26 and UofC got it September 12. Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

I hope you get to know soon alixoc. That sounds stressful! And a big move if it does happen. You mentioned they were accepting 3.7 or higher this year for now? When I was talking to enrollment services last year, it seems they dropped the GPA eventually. Looking at the old posts from a couple of years back, it was in the 3.5 GPA range. I might ask enrollment services about this year though. Good luck, I hope we're classmates.

Congrats!
Thanks!
Yes from what I’ve been told they set the “bar” at 3.7 this year for degree holders, and it’s a matter of processing the rest of the applications to see how many spaces are still available. The faculty then decides what to drop the gpa to I think. So just a matter of waiting as they drop down the waitlists in chunks.
It’ll be worth it, but a stressful waiting game!

Hey,

Did you hear anything yet? I am kind of in the same situation. And I have to leave my current job and move to Calgary. Not sure if they start to admit people from waitlist.

I was on the waitlist but got acceptance mail on Saturday. I think they are working down the list. You will hear from them soon.

Hi! Meant to post an update but have been busy.
Was accepted off wait list last week!
I hope you hear something soon if you are still waiting ?
