Hello, future nurses!

I'm a current U of C student who applied through the degree holder route. I'll be graduating at the end of this year. Please feel free to post any questions here!

Another round of applications is starting soon for the January 2019 intake of Transfer and/or Degree Holder students. Here's the U of C page for their info:

One of the most common questions is whether the courses you have taken meet the faculty's pre-requisites. The best way to be sure is to email a screenshot of your transcript to [email protected] and ask if you are missing anything.

Important note! As of 2019, the faculty is changing the schedule for the summer terms.

"We will compress all courses in Term 4 and Term 7 to be offered over a 9-week period from late April to the end of June. The result would be an intense spring term, but students would have no scheduled nursing courses during July and August."

While having 2 months off sounds great for some, it causes trouble for others (student loans, jobs, child care etc.). Please be aware of this change before applying.

Best of luck!

I was told I had an admission GPA of 3.7, and still haven't been accepted. I applied around the beginning of August I think. They said they were reviewing my requirements and that it could take a while, although I went over my requirements with an admissions officer prior to applying. Hopefully everything is okay.

My status says complete in green but there is no checkmark. I left voice messages but no call back yet. Hope to get in so fingers crossed.

Hi Luchi,

It seems like there are two "complete" status indicating to two different stages. The first complete status happens once the admission office receives all your transcripts, and required documents. At this stage, your application is sent to the nursing faculty for further assessment. The second complete status happens after you are admitted, and after you have paid your $500 deposit. You will see both the complete green circle and a checkmark once U of C receives your deposit.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sfins,

When I had an appointment with both admission and nursing advisors at the end of August, I was told that they hadn't started processing any application yet, because they were focusing on finishing up all the September-direct-entry-route applications. I think the first batch of our applications were reviewed in the first week of September, and the decision was made soon after. I'd say if your GPA is above 3.7, and if you applied at the end of August (I applied on the second of July), you should be receiving good news soon.

Hope this helps.

hi Sfins, You need to call the Faculty to find out exactly what is wrong. In my case, evem with a 3.8, they had an issue with my English, and asked me to get course outlines from the school from 2016. After that I was admitted with a 3.8. Every student is different, but at this point, i suggest you call the Faculty office not admissions.

Best of luck.

Hi everyone, praise God, I just got my green check today. Thoroughly elated, completely thrilled. Stay positive all who are waiting and look forward to meeting you all in Jan.

congratulations Glowree... See you in January.

Hi all.

Does anyone have a message saying "Upload" beside their application status? Clicking on it sends me to a page where I can upload my academic transcript from an out-of-province university that I attended, but I'm not sure why U of C would want that seeing as I've already been offered admission (which I have accepted) and paid the $500 deposit. Does anyone know what that's about? The document deadline is on Monday and the Admissions office is closed over the weekend, but I uploaded my unofficial transcript just in case.

Hi p.amj,

I saw that "upload" linker beside my checkmark just now, and after clicking it, I saw the page which you mentioned about. I didn't do anything, because I think we have been admitted which means U of C has already received all our documents and transcripts for the applications. Also, I went through my "to do list", and at this point, there is nothing U of C wants me to do. I also believe that the only official documents U of C receives are those sent directly from students' previous schools. Uploaded documents by students are only back-up files. At this point, I won't do anything, because I've been admitted already, and there is nothing shown under my "to do list".

I hope my understanding helps your concern.

Hi Everyone I know this is off topic. I am currently thinking of applying for the degree holder route Jan 2020. I just registered for the Biol 235 in Athabasca University to start November . I have a question for those people that did pre -requisite in Athabasca University can you list the names of all acceptable pre-requisites you took or is acceptable for English, Arts and statistics. Thank you and congrats to all that just got accepted

HI kute44,

Same as you, I did my BIOL235 with Athabasca Uni. For other 3 pre-requisite courses, I studied ENGL (Si-Fi literature), STAT 205, and French 203 at the U of C. I also wanted to share one of my understanding about the BIOL 235. The first two tests I did at the Calgary test center were not hard, questions were quite straightforward, however, the last one was tricky. Questions from first two tests were mostly about the anatomy and Physiology terms listed from study guide, and the questions are the simple statements, but many questions from test 3 were about the other things mentioned in the textbook, but not listed in the study guide. Also, try your best to remember all the textbook diagrams regarding to the terms listed in the study guide. Happy studying and good luck.

Hi everyone. Congratulations to everyone who has gotten accepted.

Please does any one know how University of Calgary translates courses from Athabasca University? For example , a score of 77 on course from Athabasca is 3.40 GP. Will U of C accept this as a 3.4 or calculate it as a 3.00? Thank you
