Hi,

Has anyone been accepted into the accelerated program for September 2007 yet? I STILL have not heard anything and I applied in November.. What is taking them sooo long??

Specializes in ICU, med/surg.

It wouldn't hurt to call the U of C and ask them the status on your application. Good luck! I loved my time at U of C nursing program. You will make some amazing friends!

Hi Sean,

Nice to read your posts. I applied to Accelerated Nursing program at UoC as well. Did u graduate from Accelerated Nursing program at UoC ? How is the course load? I heard there are lots of homework after class, is that true? Is it difficult to pass the courses? Any students quit/drop from the program? What is drop rate from the program? Are there stduents whose native language is not English (Asian, Japan , China, etc) in this program? Did they successfully go through the program?

Any other info as to this program from you is highly appreciated.

Hey Susan,

I just graduated from the BNAT program in April.

The course load is fairly heavy although I had a Kinesiology degree which helped with the anatomy/physiology/patho part of things. Those who are procrastinators seem to have difficulty, just because instead of having 2 months to write a paper, it's usually around one to two weeks.

There is a lot of reading to be done in certain classes like Intro to Nursing, Adult Health, Family, Community...but others aren't that bad. I think it seems like a lot of reading because of the time constraints. They suggest that you don't work during the program. I only worked one evening/week which was perfect because you always need some time that is spent thinking about something other than nursing.

We started off with about 75 people in the class and I think we graduated with around 65. Some left right at the start, others dropped down to the regular track program. There were a couple of students that had english as their second language...I can't exactly speak for them myself, but it seemed as though some did really well and made it all the way through and others ended up dropping down to regular track.

I didn't think that it was that hard to pass any of the classes. Everyone had to have at least a 3.5 gpa going into it, so most of us were overachievers to begin with!

Just make sure that you are really organized at the start. It all seems pretty confusing....all the supplies you need to get, forms to be filled out, etc...

I can't say it was the best program ever...it's only 6 or so years old so they are still learning how to revamp the program to make it better (hopefully with the input we gave). But I have to say, I met a lot of amazing people (you will spend many many many hours in PF1297 with the same 70 people) and 2 years later, I have a new career.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Congratulations Rachel and more power to you! Thank you for the info. It answered a lot of things going on in my mind.

Oh, God. Thank you so much Rachel for all the detailed information:). It is really helpful for me...

No problem! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Good luck!!!

Has anyone here who's applied heard anything from UofC's Jan '08 entry BNAT program?

Hey,

I found out on Friday I got into the Jan 2008 U of C Nursing program. I hope there wasn't a computer mistake, but there was a green check on my status :)

It would be nice to hear from others that got accepted...

Congratulations! I keep looking but still just have that green circle. :p

Hi there folks,

I have been to Calgary roughly 3 years ago and it sured seemed a very friendly place with some good specialist schools for my son. As a matter of fact the litle one can get a Canadian passport anytime because his dad was born in Alberta , sadly that will not do nothing for my status.

As i am considering all options mostly around ASD schools, and calgary has some i was wondering what are the pre-requisites for the nursing program in Calgary, how much would it cost etc..

Thanks so much in advance for any information...carla (UK)
