Can anyone give me any information on the U of A's DNP program? How difficult, etc. Thanks for the feedback

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to comment, for anyone that may see this post in the future :) I am in the first class of this program, that started last fall.

I have found this program to be very organized, and the professors/advisors seem really focused on the success of the students. Even though the program is mainly online, except for orientation, and a couple of meetings (yearly), I have had regular contact with instructors, and my advisor checks on me regularly to make sure that I am not having any problems or issues.

I had a preceptor issue (totally not my fault) and they were very responsive and protective of my educational needs, and quick to assist me with getting another one approved (and we all know how hard that is!), even though the incident occurred over spring break. Overall, I feel like I am being well prepared to be a NP.

As far as difficulty, it's not easy... I am full time, and I had statistics, patho, advanced assessment, and a first round of practicum this semester, but you just make it work. It can't be any harder than any other DNP program, I wouldn't think. They also have a part time option.

They have a CNS option, as well as the ACNP option, I am doing the latter. With the full time ACNP track, it is three years. I have an MSN, but it's in Admin/Management, so I had to do the BSN-DNP track. I did get to transfer almost all of my core courses, though, so that was a huge help.

Go Hogs!

Hi, Thank you for replying to this post! I have my MSN Educator and I'm looking at this program. I was wondering what would transfer with my degree. I figured I would have to go the BSN-DNP route also. How many classes or hours do you have to take? I comparing online programs right now and looking at NFLP schools. I plan to stay in academia, as I currently work full time in a ADN/BSN program.

Thank you!
