Our DON told the nursing staff she is going to hire 2 nurse managers. One of those will be full time on ICF for 4 halls. The nurses each have 45 residents. The other will be part-time for SNF, for 2 halls/38 residents. One of the ICF Lpn charge nurses went off during the meeting, and walked out. I think she feels like she will be dictated to. It was like she took it personally. Everyone tried to tell her this is to help. I wish I had a nickel for everytime I am at the station working on a MDS, and one of the nurses asks me to help. They have to stop their med pass to send someone out to the hospital, take care of a fall, or answer the phone. I can't imagine turning down help! I guess she will have to accept it, or move on.
I didn't work days at the LTC but I remember asking the day staff what the RCM's (Resident care managers) do all day. I was told that all they do is go outside and have smoke breaks all day.
