Are you guys for or against nurses being in a union? Why?
Being raised in a union family and married to a union worker, I see things from both perspectives. A union is good if it works in favor of their members and truly fights for their rights and best interest. A union is worthless if all they do is take your money and do absolutely nothing for you. My mother is a UAW retiree and my hubby is a member of a trade union. All I can say is my mother had it made, and my hubby's union is great for benefits but absolutely sucks for job security. Unions just aren't what they used to be.
I would like to see a nurses union that secured job security, mandates a minimum amount of patients to nurse ratios, negotiates for higher pay and better benefits and pensions and better working conditions amongst other things. I am unfamiliar with the nurse unions that were mentioned, but would like to learn more about them. Anyone care to elaborate on their usefulness?
I'm not against it.I would want the union to be nurse-specific though. Just because a hospital is unionized does not always make it better. Yeah, they may pay more but they do take out quite a bit for union dues as the union is not free.
Yeah, I was union when I did home care and the union dues were quite a bit. I hated that.

Hello all! I was wondering, are there any hospitals in SE Michigan that are unionized, or is it not all that common?
