but what about if you work for an agency that sends you out to different places?

Another question is about shoes? I understand that they should be black or blue. Are black or blue runners ok ? In the states, runners are ok, but I'm not sure about Melbourne.

Again it depends on the institution - when you sign up for agency work you ask the agency what uniforms are required and they tell you - same for the shoes. They don't mind - most times they even include this information in your "sign - on " package. I wonder why you are so persistant in asking thses questions on the internet when they are easily answered in a phone call - the only other time I heard of this happening the person was aiming to impersonate a nurse and was caught out.

Well Gwenith,

I was told by the agency that it was navy blue pants and white shirt, but I don't know if things like pockets are allowed, or if a particular material is needed like cotton. I was actually hoping someone could point me to a link somewhere that has the guidelines, as I could not find this on the nbv.gov.au site. The agency lady I talked to on the phone couldn't direct me to a shop as she did not know.

My package from the agency isn't arriving for a couple of days, and I was hoping by posting here I could find a good shop in Melbourne where I can shop for the uniform clothes.

It was a simple question gwenith, and I thought that on a site where it says, Nursing Discussion Board, I could find the answers I was looking for. If you do not know the answer to a question being posted, then don't post a reply with an accusation of impersonation.

I was not posting accusations but pointing something out. This is the internet and one has to be careful about who one is talking to - too many turn out to have motives other than those they posit.

As to your answer - most places allow pockets some hospitals do not allow "runners" some do the answer is - it depends!!!

Here the agencies actually provide uniforms for thier staff but not everyone opts to wear them - usually they are polo shirt or cotton chambray shirts. If the agency you are signing on with does not know what the uniform requirements are for the hospitals and centres they are sending you to then I would turn and walk out and try another agency that DOES know. There are too many idosyncracies among employers from where to sign on to what sort of hours they want you to work and other expectations to trust an agency that cannot tell you what the unif orm expectations are.

Hi, like Gwenith I am facinated that the lady at the agency you spoke to couldn't direct you to a uniform supplier. However, does the agency have a website? That might give you some information regarding uniform requirements.
