We are frequently being called off, or placed on call with no call in and are now wondering if we can claim unemployment insurance for those days that are, in effect, lay offs for that day. In the past, if called off occasionally for low census, we use vacation time to get paid for that day. Many of us are now out of vacation hours and are short on their pay. Would we qualify for unemployment if cancelled? Working in California. Thanks.

Let me google that for you. Contact YOUR state for unemployment information. Unemployment kicks in after a layoff or firing, not on an intermittent basis.
Better to use your energy to find out WHY staffing is being cut. Get ready to move on.

I would find that very strange, but in California, it's possible that you get a one-time million dollar payment and $5000 a week for three years. They throw money at you for everything, here.
FAQ - Eligibility
It does say you can apply if working less than full time, but it's unclear what restrictions might exist beyond that.
