Undershirt for scrubs?

Published

I have a tattoo on my back, part of it is higher up almost on my neck. The scrub top I am required to get for school, is cut in a way that I am sure the tat will show, if not all the time, it may occasionally if my shirt gets pulled down to much or something. And of course its "unprofessional" and must be covered!

So I am looking for a 3/4 sleeve shirt, preferably with a mock turtleneck for the neck line to ensure that it is covered at all times. We are not permitted to wear shirts with full sleeves, and the shirt must be fitted. I tend to get cold very easily so want something with a little sleeve to wear if I can find it. Short sleeves would work as well, but not my preference.

If anyone could suggest a good place to find something like this, I would greatly appreciate it!

Underarmor makes nice synthetic tops. They have a few shirts that have a high neck. They are not as high as a turtle neck but might be enough to cover your tat. If you can only find the long sleeve shirt wth the high neck you can always cut the sleeves off.

A woman I worked with while in school had a tattoo behind her ear that ran down the side of her neck. The only people that really found it unprofessional were the patients on the geriatric ward and even so it was only 2-3 of those patients that ever said anything. Other than that no one had a problem with it.

Is it the hospital saying it's "unprofessional" if so than yes get a t-shirt to appease them. Nike has some nice form fitting t-shirts with their moisture wicking fabric that would probably do the trick. If it's not the hospital imposing on you I'd just wear the tat proudly.

I thought with my many piercings places might have a problem or deem it "unprofessional" as well, but that just turned out to be my own personal hang-up. Most of the comments I recieve about my piercings are out of curiosity, people wondering the stories behind them.

It's not the hospital, it is my Nursing Program, they have a strict dress code. The clinical coordinator who did our orientation, fully admitted that how strict the guideline for the day is, really depends on the instructor. She said some will sort of inspect us, and send us home if we have an issue even if it is a small one. I do believe that 95% of the time my tattoo would be covered completely, but don't want to risk getting sent home from clinical because someone who is annoyed by it, happens to see it peeping out the top of my shirt.

try a mock turtleneck from llbean or something, they are soft, will last forever, are form fitting and well look good. try black or the same color as your scrubs.

not sure if you found a shirt or not..but i also have a tattoo on my neck and i would put a banaid to cover it. depending how big your is..thats a different way to cover it

Personally, I'd rather cover it with makeup than have to wear a mock-turtleneck. They make heavy makeup designed specifically to hide tats.
