undecisive new grad nurse!!!!

Published

hello everybody!!!!

i recently graduated nursing school and will be taking my nclex in the beginning of october. my problem is that i keep getting different types of job offers to work as a gn whether it be in a hospital or in local home health agencies in my area. i really don't know which route to go because of my upcoming nclex examination.

does anyone have any suggestions?????

please help?????:o

I would suggest to take you Nclex frist before you start working anywhere thats the mistake I made LOL!!! but you should accept the GN position but after you take boards... if you od home health you will loose some skills that you would have learned in a hospital.. hope this helps

thanks!!!

I was kind of looking for someone else's perspective on the scenario.....

I agree, if you go into home health directly it will not be to your benefit. Take your boards and get a good six months to year in medsurg then specialize. I know alot of people do not beleave that a good med surg background is somthing to have. But I can tell you all the basics and the foundation will be laid and skills honed if you take the time to do a med surg postion first. Then if you choose to go to ED, ICU, surgery even home health. You will have the necessary skills and be a bit more sure of yourself. It is a totaly differant world out there once you are on your own and out of school.
