I am in a tough situation, I want to begin school this fall but am not sure if I should just stick the four years out right now and get my BSN or be put on a waiting list for about 1-3 years at a technical school. I know that if I would go the techncial school route I would eventually go back for my BSN. So some say get it all out the way now for the BSN, but in about 2 1/2 years my fiancee and I plan on getting pregnant(we are getting married next month) and I want to still continue on with school. I don't want to stop for a semester or two then go back. More than likely I will be attending Alverno this fall. If anyone is in this situation or has been any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

You're already in college and you're young. Just finish the BSN now. I'm doing a completion right now, and believe me it's a PITA. It's actually taking more time total than getting a four year degree in the first place. By the time you get into a tech program and finish that, you could be done with your BSN.
And I realize this is personal, but would it really be so awful to wait 4 years for a baby instead of 2? Why not finish college first?

In 1991 I Returned To School After Having My 3rd Child. I Thought I Would Be Happy With Just An Asn But Guess What, I Enrolled Last Fall To Continue Towards My Bsn. I Wish That I Had Just Continued Towards My Bsn. Nursing Is Becoming Selective And Having Your Bsn Nowadays Opens Alot Of Doors. So If I Where You I Would Go For It Before Kids Come Into The Picture. I Went Back To School, Raising 3 Kids, 8,4,2. To This Day I Still Am Amazed That I Finished. But There Where Alot Of Sleepless Nights. My Family Was Still My #1 Priority, But I Had To Compete With Alot Of Young Women And Men For A Spot In The Nursing Program. Grades Had To Be Good. So From Experience, You Will Be So Grateful That You Went For The Bsn. Good Luck.
Thank you to the ones that responded to my post. I am going to stick out the four years and get my BSN. In regards to your question farmerjane, I guess waiting until I am completely done with school to have children is not that bad of an idea. But we want to be done with children by the time we are 30. If I wait unitl I am done with school he will be 29 and we would just be starting. Who knows we will figure it out, but thank you so much for the info.
Good for you! You won't regret it.
I understand giving yourself a time limit, but ask yourself, "What would happen if our second child is born when he's 31?" Is that really so bad? Your reproductive choices are up to you, but if I may offer my advice: don't let an arbitrary number lead your decisions over tangible benefits.
Thank you, we eventually decided that my education will come first and we will wait until I am done with school before we have children.
