Uncertain

I dont know..Im just feeling overwhelmed and uncertain/frustrated right now. Im in my second week of training/orientation (part that was previously canceled) and I dont know if I will like it more when I get used to it or not. Maybe its just the floor/preceptor. I know I posted sometime before about maternity...but I think that would be something that I would be more interested in. I applied, but Im sure many others did to. I think I asked this before and noone did, but does anyone work/has worked etc. in a maternity department? What is it like? I have been looking on the Catholic Health website for postings related to what I went to school for/other health related positions in the same system. I just want something permanent..and hopefully I will find that out soon.

Is the work load that is getting to you. I feel the same for have 12 to 16 patients to care for. Thus switching to home health care.

Well the workload is overwhelming,..especially since I have no previous na experience/training. Also I dont know if its for me, or maybe its just the floor etc. Im having a hard time remembering things. I think I would enjoy maternity more. I dont know what I should do. I dont want to quit right away....dont want to waste my time either. Its a union job...so I want to at least try to stay within the same system...possibly as a na in the maternity dept., or look for other related jobs (somewhat close to medical assisting what I graduated with an A.A.S. IN December). Not looking forward to working Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I think if the girl who has been training me for the most part is there Friday she is going to put me by myself...dont feel like Im confident yet.

No one feels confident to be by themselves, no matter how much training you've had. We ALL feel like we're being thrown to the wolves. It takes a few weeks of being on your own before you start to feel comfortable.

You're not even off your training and you're applying to other jobs? Give it some time. You are shooting yourself in the foot with all this hemming and hawing.

Being a CNA is hard work...being a new CNA is even harder!!! If you know you want to do this, then stick it out. I never worked in maternity, but sometimes you need to get experience first (take what you can get) and then go for what you want. You can look into working as a CNA while you get certified as a doula. If you never heard of a doula, just google "doula" and you will find plenty of information on it. Being certified as a doula and a nursing assistant may get your foot in the door to work as a CNA in maternity.

The point is there is more than one way to reach your destination, but sometimes you have to take a route that you don't like to get to your destination!!

The hospital I just started tow ork at you dont have to be a CNA..its just NA. You dont get the recognition, even if you are. I am certified as an CMA though. Do you have any idea how to become a doula etc? I was looking up the definition.

I would not want to recommend a certain company or association because I am not familiar with any of them, but if you google "doula certification", you will find what you need. I hope that helps.
