UNC DNP 2015

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hello Everyone!

I was curious to see if there was anyone else out there who has applied for the UNC-Chapel Hill BSN-DNP program for 2015 admit?

I am ridding the same boat with you CCuser, I was rejected too  I got the dreaded email while I was on my way to my best friends wedding. I felt crushed. I also thought I put in a really strong application but apparently not good enough.

I refuse to give up too, I am setting sight on 2016 with a goal of putting in multiples(at least 3) different DNP program applications (I spent the night after shortlisting those which I plan to apply to), I plan to update by re-doing my GRE or MAT soon, then the statistics and research level class that seems all highly ranked programs are requiring... by then I will also have acquired nursing certification (which I am working on currently) that I feel will improve my chances for 2016 intakes.

On the bright side, I heard from a friend who had to settle for the MSN, that it is very unlikely to be accepted to a DNP program first time...

Time for me to show some resilience.

Absolutely!!! It's aggravating - especially because I thought there was a push for nurses to obtain their DNP. It would make sense to have more DNP slots and less msn slots. I won't give up either - I'm going to work toward certification as well. I already have an A in stats and in research. I sucked at nursing assessment. Lol. I'm waiting to hear back from USA - applied to both the DNP and MSN psych NP. They are the only school other than chapel hill that offer the PMHNP and are approved for clinicals in NC. Let's stay in touch. You can pm me anytime.. other than the certification - I'm not sure what I can do. It's seems so hard to get into grad school. But then that is the only school I applied to, and I probably shouldn't make assumptions based on that. Good luck !!!

Hey FieldMashall, Yes, everyone will be notified by email if they are successful or unsuccesful. It all goes by points - Who has the most experience, how your statement of purpose letter counts, your GPA - stuff like that. BSN to DNP FNP has the most slots avail - approx 40 to 50 or so. Psych, peds and some on the infomatics and leadership have only a few slots as well.

They had over 400 applicants for the regular NP program. Im starting to wish I had of applied for the regular NP program, as they are taking 20 psych. But they said they had a record number of applicants this year.

Hope that helps.

Hi CCuser, did they have more than 400 applicants for all the MSN specialties combined, or more than 400 applicants for psych MSN? I applied to the MSN PMHNP program and still have my fingers crossed.

Good luck with USA. I'm sorry UNC didn't work out this year.

400 combined. They are taking 20 students for psych msn. So it sounds promising for you.

Thank you, CCuser!

Hi CCuser,

Apparently I can't PM since I haven't been in more than 15 topics on this forum. Maybe email me at [email protected]. I am in NC too and happen not to be a fan of online classes. So through AACN website i have learned that Wiston-Salem State University also has a DNP program... Do you anything about it...?

Ok. I'll email you. WSSU probably does have one. I'm only interested in psych - so I only have two options. UNC or USA. They are the only 2 schools in NC who have the PMHNP.

I prefer online. I did my ADN degree online except for clinicals and my RN to BSN was a combo. Did better with the online classes. But We are all different. There are plenty of brick and mortar schools in NC that have DNP - they just have it in everything else other than what i want. What specialty are you after?

I am looking for FNP for my speciality, with the goal of offering care primarily in the community setting and supplementing it with emergency acute care setting. Currently I work in the ED and the experience I am getting is gearing me towards FNP.

My experience is ED. Did it for years. Lol. Glad I'm out.

Hahaa, don't blame you. ED is my only true nursing experience, tried little of pediatric nursing but left faster than I could spell the word "Run"...lol, I love the ED, not always fun but I love the experience so much so that even after grad school I still plan to be part of ED care.
