UNC ABSN Program for Summer 2021

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi y'all, I thought I would start a thread for those who are applying to the ABSN nursing program for next Summer! Good luck to everyone applying!! :)

Congratulations to everyone accepted, and for those who didn't get in or got waitlisted, I am sorry but please know that this is not the end. Take it as an opportunity to gain experience, travel, or do a project you are really passionate about.

I am asking about what people are doing for housing for those who got accepted. I am kind of nervous because housing near UNC is really expensive and I also don't want to go too far from campus.

Hi everyone!  I was also accepted and am a NC resident.  Here are my stats/info (as calculated by nursingCAS): undergraduate GPA: 3.18, masters GPA: 3.73, prerequisite GPA: 4.0.  I have a masters degree and 2 graduate certificates, one of which is in MNCH.  I have 6+ years of working in global public health and also volunteered as a doula through the UNC Birth Partners program.

In regards to housing, I live in Chapel Hill already so thankfully that's one less thing I have to figure out.  One thing to note is the buses are AWESOME.  They are free for everyone and run very frequently.  If you can, try to find someone to split a 2-3 bedroom with that's near the busline.  If you're splitting, you can find a place where each person pays in the $300-$500 range per month.  A place to check-out is Finley Forest near the Friday Center.

I got my first degree from UNC and would recommend living in Carrboro or down MLK Blvd! Both have great bus lines and more affordable prices. I live about 35 mins away and will be commuting. Should we make a facebook group if someone hasn't already?

Hello everyone! I’m glad I was able to find this thread! I was also accepted, but I am currently debating whether or not to accept the program as I am out of state and it’s a hefty price tag! I don’t know much about the actual program since I am not familiar with the area, but would love to connect to people who are or current students in the program! Congrats to everyone accepted!

I think that's a great idea about creating a FB group. Appears that's what previous cohorts have done. I don't have any experience with creating groups.

I will be commuting as well. How difficult will it be to find parking on or near campus?

I just created the FB group! Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/369112450811469

I'm not sure if that link will work so if it doesn't the group name is "UNC ABSN 2021"

Unfortunately, parking at UNC is a complete mess. Sometimes students sell parking spots at their houses that are within walking distance to campus so I may try to snag one of those. If not, luckily the bus systems are great and there are a lot of park&ride lots

Congrats to everyone!! I was initially waitlisted but just heard back and got accepted! I will be joining the facebook group and looking for housing:)

Congrats on coming off the waitlist. How exciting. Did you happen to call or discuss your application at all? Just trying to decide my luck and hold out on a little hope.

No I was so bummed out when they emailed me last week and out of no where today I received an email. They send emails all the way out until May so you still have time!

Did anyone else on the waitlist just get an email with the subject line "A Status Change to Your UNC-Chapel Hill Application is Available" but it was the same thing about being waitlisted? It sent me to the portal where we did our supplemental application and asked me to confirm if I wanted to accept or deny a spot on the waitlist.

I did. I  accepted the offer (a second time) just in case.
