UNC ABSN Program for Summer 2021

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi y'all, I thought I would start a thread for those who are applying to the ABSN nursing program for next Summer! Good luck to everyone applying!! :)

The start to my undergraduate was a little bumpy so I am definitely not a shoo in. I have a 3.35 GPA and all A's in my science prerequisites. I have some general volunteer but no healthcare experience. Hopefully, my essays are compelling. I only applied to UNC-CH this time around because it was the best school (in my budget) within commuting distance. So fingers crossed. And good luck to all!

I also only applied to UNC-CH. It’s a little frightening to place all your eggs in one basket, but I am trying to remain hopeful and optimistic, focusing on other things until letters are mailed. The wait does feel a little tough. Hopefully, letters will be mailed out in just over a month or so. Best of luck!

Hi all! I also applied to UNC's ABSN program for Summer 2021. My GPA from my first undergraduate degree is not the best at 3.25. But my prerequisite GPA is a 4.0. My first degree is in Public Relations and I've worked the past 5 years as a fundraiser for hospitals and medical universities. UNC is my first choice program, but I also applied to 5 others and just got my acceptance letter for my second choice school (Duquesne in Pittsburgh, PA) so I am happy either way, but am still hoping to be able to go to UNC!

Best of luck! I hope you get into UNC since it’s your first choice ?

Anyone know of when they will send out decisions? For some reason I thought it may have been mid October, but the website also says 12+ weeks after applications are due...

I, too, noticed the conflicting information. After scoping prior threads, it seems that anywhere between the second and last week of October seems relatively normal. I am sure that many things go into the variation. Additionally, I wonder if COVID may affect the decision process in any way. I am starting to become a little impatient as the days draw closer. Nevertheless, I hope the wait is shorter rather than longer.

Crazy it may be as soon as just a few weeks. Nevous/excited! Good luck to everyone and fingers crossed!

Yep. Exactly! I'm both nervous and excited! I'm definitely ready to find out if I've been accepted so I can plan accordingly.

Hooray it’s October 1, we should have our letters by the end of the month and know either way. T-minus 30 days or less (but hey, who’s counting)

One week down. The count down is on!

I am hoping to know within the next week or two, but we’ll see. Time is definitely dragging now, and I find myself becoming increasingly more nervous. If anyone happens to receive any notifications, please come on and let everyone know to be on the lookout.

I have gone through a whole cycle of emotions. After I completed my application, I was super energized. After realizing how competitive nursing school is, I was nervous. I even went through a period of not being sure I wanted to spend the money to go through the stress of an accelerated program. Now I'm excited again. But I also feel at peace with whatever happens. And yes, before I open my mailbox these days I do take a big breath.
