yoyoyoyo...haha i am in my last year in the program at umsl.....

thats so random that the first thing i see when i clicked on misery im sorry missouri.....was umsl.

its a good program just avoid kathy lee for med surg I

i have learned alot.....diane saleska is the best, she should run for president. as well as vicky becherer (sp). its a tough program, be well organized and keep your head on straight. get involved with SNA. i am the SGA (student gov't association) rep. its awesome because not only do you get extra credit in nurs 3101 but you also get to be involved. i recommend doing the flu shot clinics. u actually feel like a nurse for a day. i did two of them.

have fun and dont freak out early because it only gets harder.....

I am also in the UMSL nursing program. I remember all too well the feelings of nervousness associated with starting clinicals - Diane Saleska is absolutely fabulous for NUR3101 so really listen and take to heart everything she teaches. She is the type of nurse I hope to be once I graduate! Do not drag your feet where the lab modules are concerned. Get them done ASAP because if you wait until the last minute to do return demos the instructors will be WAY harder on you and more likely to fail you for minor slip-ups (most will let a few things "slide" as long as it's not a glaring error). The best advice I can give you is to give 100% and you will be fine....the instructors will notice and you will make it through. The program is tough, but rewarding. Welcome and congrats on starting clinicals!

thanks for replying and thanks for the tip. It's good to hear encouragement. I am just kinda nervous because most of my friends that are also starting clinicals with me have already worked in a hospital setting and I have only worked in a pharmacy. I'm kinda afraid I'll be behind. Thanks again

Please try not to feel this way! I know a lot of students feel intimidated by other students who are working as techs/aides but don't worry - you won't be behind. In the lab you will be taught like you have never stepped foot in a hospital, right down to bedmaking, baths, etc. We had plenty of students in our class (myself included!) that had not worked in a hospital and everyone did just fine.
