UMHB in TX students??

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was accepted at UMHB!! Starting this Summer for a mini-mester, looking for anyone who is already there or starting as well. Hoping to apply for the BSN program by Spring 2016, would like to "meet" other students

I got in with a 3.26 overall and my above the line Gpa was 3.1. And I made a 62 on the Kaplan. I had two c's in my sciences and 1 b All I'm missing is chemistry. I start this August. I know some who got in too and were missing two sciences but they were required to take them over the summer and pass them with B or better.

Hi all,

not sure if anyone is going to check this board but I've been looking into applying to umhb nursing school.. I'm not sure how many of my credits will transfer from a public community college/university, what do they accept? Also, Ive been looking at the GPA requirements, and I see "Above The Line" GPA, what is in that gpa calculation?

Hi Monica! I'm currently in the process of applying to UMHB for the spring. I take my Kaplan on September 30. You need to have a gpa of 3.0 and a core prerequisite gpa of 3.0 or above. If you have any other questions I would get in touch with Mrs. Carpenter! She is amazing!! If you're planning to apply for the spring I would look into asap. Deadline is October 1

Definitely get in touch with Ms Carpenter, she's great. I got to meet with her a couple of months ago to go over my transcript. All the courses I took at a public university in NC that count toward the BSN were transferable. I think as long as your school is accredited, you're golden. I'm currently taking my science courses at CTC and will be applying in the spring for Fall 17. The minimum GPA is 3.0 and there's an entrance exam to take.

Good luck with the Kaplan exam, Texasstudent0 and let us know how it is.

I have already taken the TEAS V for my application to UT Tyler, does anyone know if the Kaplan and TEAS are similar? or is one more difficult than the other? How do i get in touch with Mrs. Carpenter? I've looked online through the registrar directory to try and find an email but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I would like to email her first with some of my questions before calling.

Texasstudent0, How long have you been studying for the Kaplan? I want to know if it will be feasible for me to attempt to take it towards the end of this month to try and apply for this admission cycle instead of having to wait another semester.

Hey, ok so I bought the Kaplan study guide for nursing entrance exams. It is general study guide for all nursing entrance exams. And at the very beginning of the book it tells you what areas each specific test (whether it be Hesi, Kaplan, Teas.. Etc) cover. I glanced over the teas part because I have several friends who have taken it and I feel as though the Kaplan maybe a little bit easier. Basic Math such as conversions, ratios, fractions. Writing and Reading and A&P. I think the TEAS may have a little bit more to study. But you need at least a 65% on Math and Reading I believe as well as an overall score of 65% or above. I have bought several books to help me study. I took the pretest in the Kaplan book and did fair on all areas. Math was definitely my weakest so I bought a for dummies book on that. I'm in school right now as well. So whenever I have free time I look over these books. From what people tell me though, it doesn't seem that hard. Also there are YouTube videos you can check out to get individual reviews of the material people have had to study for the Kaplan. If you go to the nursing page on the UMHB website and click on get more info ms. Carpenters info should be listed. Hope this helps!!

Hi I'm currently in the program i stared this fall. The Kaplan is way easier than the teas. Know basic math like fractions covering and decimals. There are maybe 2 or 3 dosage questions. Science is mainly anatomy. Reading and writing is also fairly easy. I had made a 62 without studying when the requirement was a 60% & I just left it at that the first time. I believe the changed it to 65% now. Mrs carpenters email is [email protected]. Good luck :)

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. How is it going? I can't wait to start. í ½í¸

Thanks so much you guys! I think I actually have the study guide you are talking about Texasstudent0. I bought it last year along with the ATI TEAS V study guide and I worked in it a little. I emailed Ms. Carpenter and she is starting to evaluate my transcripts so hopefully everything is good enough and I can take the Kaplan and apply for this upcoming Spring!

It's a lot of work. Read Read Read! You need to make a 75 on all exams and your practicums in order to pass the class of not your out :/ but so far I love it :)

@monica are you still going to try to get in for the spring? I have already been accepted into the university. And completed my nursing application. Just have to take the Kaplan.

@texasstudent0 yes, I am. I'm scheduled to take my Kaplan exam on Friday and I'm submitting both of my applications this week!
