@layanegg since umhb is a christian school the campus life is not like you would expect. No parties allowed, as well as the apartments have visiting hours. on weekends the campus is mostly dead, and there is nothing to do around campus. I am totally okay with all of this, I actually enjoy having a calm campus but I would not consider campus to be fun.

WOW! I didn’t know it was that strict.. I’m not much of a party person either but I feel like I’ve missed out OMG “university life” bc I went to community college after I graduate high school last year. Also the fact that I’m going into nursing school so soon makes me wish I had more fun in college

@polarSN hey, how was it when you were in N1? I am kind of nervous about it LOL.

Personally, I thought it was easier than intro. I think it really depends on the person and if you’ve found a way of studying that works for you. The information itself isn’t that hard at all. The exemplars they give you build a great foundation as far as what are the main things you need to know for an exemplar in any concept. For example, the interventions you learn to maximize oxygenation in the exemplar of pneumonia are basically the same for any respiratory exemplar plus or minus a few depending on severity. The Patho teacher Mrs. Andrews is amazing.
The biggest hurdle for me was check offs. I don’t know what the deal was that semester but I felt like there was some miscommunication on what you could fail for. After that it was smooth sailing. I was nervous too because it was my first full semester of nursing school but I was pleasantly surprised on the degree of difficulty.

@polarSN This just made me feel a whole lot better. Are check-offs on the first week? Do you recommend practicing my skills at home this Summer? and how do check-offs go exactly? sorry for all the questions but I don't know anyone that is not intro

Check offs are the first week but N1 gets to go last which I believe is Thursday. Practicing depends on what they do about open lab this Summer. If we start opening stuff back up I would assume they will have the lab open for the 1-2 weeks leading up to school starting. I would definitely go if you can just so that way you don’t have to fight for a spot in the lab that first week when it’s flooded with people before check offs and remediating. I think even one day would be helpful so you at least have a couple hours under your belt and it’s not a big deal if you can only work in 1 hour on Tuesday or Wednesday the first week. Basically how they do it is you will get assigned a time to come perform your skill and a time to come do med admin. If I remember correctly and they haven’t changed it, in N1 your med admin is an I'm injection into a large muscle mass and your skill can be either an in and out cath or a foley on a male or female. You show up 15 min early, draw your skill/med, and go. Review the skills sheet beforehand so you know what you absolutely must do to pass (critical components) and what parts you won’t fail for if you miss. Of course you want to check every box, but there are some skills that have parts you can miss and still pass it.

you’re good! Sorry my answers are always novels ?

@polarSN thankyou so much! Don't worry! your info is very useful!

Hey everyone! I just got accepted into UMHB and am hoping to apply for the Spring 2021 start date. I’m curious to know what some of your GPA’s / TEAS scores were that got you into the nursing program. I have a 3.5 and 86% on the TEAS, and the advisors say I’ll probably get in but I don’t know if they are just telling me what I want to hear!

@MarieKuhn

I had about 3.9 GPA and a 82% on TEAS. My friend who got in the same time I did had a slightly lower TEAS and I think closer to a 3.5-3.7.
It’s a competitive program because of the sheer volume of people that apply, but it’s all based on a points system and you’re checking off a lot of boxes. So long as you meet the minimum GPA requirements overall and for the certain core classes, I would be very surprised if you didn’t get in with that GPA and TEAS.

Thanks! Do you know what the point system is for UMHB or how I could find it?

@MarieKuhn hi Marie I got into the program with an 80 on TEAS and 3.6 GPA which is not that high. The more people that apply, the more competitive it gets. but I know someone who got accepted for fall 2020 with a 75 on TEAS but I don't know what her GPA is. If you email them and they tell you that you should get accepted then it is very likely you are because that is what they told me.

@MarieKuhn you get points based on GPA, TEAS, if you’ve been at UMHB or transferred for the program, if you maintained the 3.0 in the selected courses, and there are some points for the responses on the applications but not a ton.

I got in with a 75 TEAS but the only parts that matter are math and reading. I had a 95 in math and a 85 in reading. My GPA was a 3.4 but science GPA is a 3.6 . I chose not to go because umhb is not a 2 year program unlike the other schools I got into.

@polarSN hey do you know what clinical schedule is like for n1? I know I have class mondays and tuesdays but I am clueless about the clinical dates.
