UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

Hi everyone! Is there anyone who can provide information on the Accelerated BSN program at UMDNJ? I would like to know how durable is the program- the good, the bad and the ugly. What GPA is required for admission and how soon does one have to apply? Thanks- any info would be appreciated:chuckle

I just received my acceptance letter for Spring 2012, will any one be attending the orientation this Thursday??? Can the fellow UMDNJ students enlighten me on what to expect at orientation??? Has anyone started a Facebook page for Spring 2012 class? If you have already taken the TEAS do you have to take it again???

Thank you, I actually received a call the day before they were mailing out decisions. They wanted to know which campus I would prefer to attend. Is anyone attending orientation?

Ahhh ok. I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully I hear something over the next few days, this wait is killing me lol.

it depends if they dont have enough openings then yeah you prob. will. this sem some level 1 is in our sat. clinicals however looking at the calender (http://sn.umdnj.edu/calendar/absnnwk.html) it seems all levels has sat. clinicals this sem.

i have been looking into umdnj's Accelerated BSN program for a while now. i will graduate in may with a bsn but after graduation i am going to start my pre-reqs for the nursing program. i do not think that social work is for me. i have a gpa of 3.6 as of now. i took psychology my freshman year in college and received a "c" in the class. i know umdnj says that a grade of "c" or higher is necessary to have the credits transferred. do you think i should take this course again at a community college? also, what community college in nj should i attend in order to complete my pre-reqs? i would hate to complete my pre-reqs and have umdnj not accept the credits because the school doesn't find that the course is equivalent (or for another reason). another question that i had was do you think i will be able to work full time and earn my do my accelerated bsn program part-time?

these are umdnj's pre-req courses:

  • anatomy & physiology i and ii (8 credits with lab)*
  • microbiology (4 credits with lab)*
  • chemistry (4 credits with lab)*
  • statistics (3 credits)
  • psychology (3 credits) ††
  • humanities or social science (3 credits)

I am actually interested in applying to the UMDNJ accelerated nursing program for the Fall semester but I had a couple questions maybe you guys can help me with. First, I have asked one of my professors to write me a recommendation letter I sent them the form that is on the website to fill out for the recommendation, now do they just submit that electronically to NursingCAS? I just want to make sure I don't mess up with submitting them and also I go to Rutgers New Brunswick and they offer AHA courses now do I need to take a BLS course and a Heartsaver AED course and get certification for both? Thank You so much!!!

For the letters of recommendation I advise you to make copies of the letters. NursingCAS lost my letters 3 times!! I sent it though the mail, however, I think it will be better to send the letters of recommendation electonically. Also, I took BLS and AED course together and got certified for both at the same time.

i got a c for one of the pre-reqs and i still got accepted into the program. i think that your undergraduate gpa and grade for the science pre-reqs will be more important. i took my science and psych pre-reqs at bergen community college, paramus, nj. right now i am full-time accelerated program. i can't see myself working but some of my classmates are working part time and passing their classes. so, it's all on how organized you are and how much time you put into studying.

Thank You TheDreamJourney ! So I do have to tell the person who is writing the reference to fill out that form on their website right? and that is all they have to do? Sorry was just a little confused and didn't want to misinform my reference writer :)

I send my letters through the mail. But do it electronically so that Nursingcas doesn't lose them. You have to send it to the website. Don't send it to the University because I made that mistake at first and they refused to give the letters back. Make sure to read NursingCas instructions carefully and if you have any questions make sure to call them. Also, the only thing you have to send to the University directly is a copy of your BLS/Aed.
