Hey everyone,
As I am applying to MA programs I did not see a new topic for the GEP program for 2020. Thought I would make one and see if anyone on here is/has applied already and start chatting with one another.
Cheers.

Hi, I think they are still doing interviews because I have my interview in a few days. Can anyone tell me what to expect for the interview and how long they waited after the interview to receive either an acceptance/rejection letter?

They review applicants every other Thursday. I had my interview on a Wednesday so I heard back the next day. They asked me about my background and just wanted to know more about me. They also had prepared questions for me to answer.

Saw the thread for this year and I am a current student in the program! Happy to answer any questions anyone may have ?
Hi,
for the grad portion of the program does UMass find your clinical sites for you? I’m hearing conflicting information. I thought the faculty said they find all sites. Have you had to find preceptors? Thanks
Hello, I'm currently in the first year of the program. They place you in all of your clinical sites - it is one of the reasons that I chose this program. You do *not* need to find your own preceptors!
After you pass the NCLEX, you do need to find an RN job to get your RN hours - I think that there may be some help available for this, but ultimately this part is up to you.
@FutureAdultGeroNP Thank you so much for answering these questions. I am going to be an incoming adult gero primary student. I already have a particular interest in a certain field after working this past summer in a clinic, would I be able to tell the school when it comes time to picking clinicals if I have an interest in practicing within a certain field? Does the school typically find clinical sites in your particular field of interest if the student has one and already knows what they like?
@futurenp1234 I don't know the specifics of how the clinical assignments work in the NP years. I think that you can specify your interest and they will try to meet it, but I don't think they can guarantee it just because of the challenge of getting everyone placed appropriately. This would be a good question to ask the school. Have you already had your interview and been accepted?
About roommates... the medical school has a spreadsheet for people looking for roommates that is distributed in the late spring. People also put up flyers on the bulletin boards at the school itself. I was nervous about finding housing and a roommate last year, but it all worked out. Most of us ended up rooming with people outside of our cohort and honestly it's nice to have a break from the intensity of things :). The good news is it's easy to find nice places to live close to school that are affordable.
@FutureAdultGeroNP Hi, yes I have already been accepted into the adult geriatric primary care track! Did you find your roommates before you started school in august? And if so how did you end up fiding them did you use the medical school spreadsheet that were distributed in the late spring? Is the spreadsheet distributed to the student's email addresses?
That's great @futurenp1234 congratulations! That's my track too (can you tell by my name haha). So I ended up getting my own apartment (which I found from a flyer on one of the school bulletin boards) and then posting for a roommate on the medical school list which worked out great for me. I moved into my apartment on July 1. I procured it in May I think?
The list will be available at some point in the spring. We had a Facebook group and someone from last year's group shared it with us (I'm happy to do the same!). I was very confused (and a bit worried) about this last year, but it all worked out.
Hi all!
First post here. Congrats to everyone accepted. I have been accepted to the adult gerontology primary care specialty. I am wondering if anyone has made a Facebook group??
in addition, if current students could please elaborate on the schedule for the first RN year of the program and if possible the years afterwards. During the first year, what does a typical week look like? What is the break schedule? Do we have breaks between semesters and if so how long? How manageable is the program and how do you feel about the workload?? Are any classes online?
thank you so much for your help!
